420EX - When wasw it first made

Appreciate if anyone knows when the 420EX, or 550E, was first made? I'm seriously considering to purchase but fear of a new replacement model after I bought one.

Not exactly sure when but I know that the 420 ex was the replacement/upgrade for the 380ex.

So i think it will not be replaced in the very near future.

550E (x) I presume.

no idea when this came but I know if I have the money to spend this would be my choice.

420 came out in 2000 (as a companion to Elan 7). 550 is a couple of years older.
