Hi folks

Please help me to decise! Saw the UP-dDP10 from SONY in a shop with a very very good price ( 300 Swiss Francs= this are about 170USD). Is this printer a good deal or is it better to save a little bit ;-) more money to buy an oly p-440?

Thanks to all for helping

Greetings from the sunny Switzerland

Hello Thomas,

If you want to make just prints to keep them in your fingers, buy it!

They look and feel like 'real' pictures. You need some patience ( and money) to calibrate the thing, thereafter it works great.

I use it often, when I want to give out some pictures to friends, who critically look at digital cameras. They are quite impressed!

Hi Chris- I have the SV55 instead of the UP-DP 10 and I was curious about what
you mean by "calibrating" correctly. I have only used mine direct from the chip

so far so when I connect it to my computer is when I calibrate?? Your help will be
very much appreciated. By the way, I love the pics the SV puts out.

Hi Gloria,

I mean WISIWIG. What I see on my screen (colours, saturation, sharpness etc.) I want on my pics. My way was not very sophisticated. It was just playing with the printer-driver till I've got what I wanted. Then I saved that 'calibration' and it works for most of the pics out of my D30.

For better, more sophisticated results I use the Oly P400. I like this beast!

Hi Christoph

How are the pics from the UP-DP10 in comparison to this from the p400?

Is there a great difference? Is it better to save a little bit (more) to buy an p400?

Hi Thomas,

look, you have to be a little bit crazy, if you by a p400 without beeing a pro, earning his money with the help of this tool. One print costs about 3$. Thats without the inital investement! But what you get is amazing. Crisp clear pics - fotos. In size you have the freedom of choice til nearly A4.

In my eyes there is no comparison to the UP-DP10, except that both are dyesub printers.

If you really are in fotos and are not satisfied with 'shelf'stuff, the OLY is your tool.

I enjoy it (nearly) every day. I'm not more dependant on any fotolab. I make my stuff for myself from a to z! That's what I like.

By the way I'm in no way a representative from Olympus! They should pay me for that post :-)

Hi Chris

If the pics from the p400 are so significant better then this from the UP-DP10 i will wait and save a bit money to buy an p400. I use normally an epson styphoto890. The print quality is very good for an inkjet-printer. Saw the S800 from canon today in action, its in my eyes a little bit better than the epson. And now i need a printer for perfect pictures made with my oly e-10. If the p400 is really so good i'll wait for this machine. What picture papers (sizes) are available for the p400? A4/A5/Postcard ...???

Have an nice weekend ond merci velmals.

Ciao ciao

Today my UP-DP10 is arrived!!!

Great piece of technic. Prints very well also under win2000.

A little bit calibration (more sharp than normal, color is very well) and the thing makes pics like real photos. I'm verry happy with that little thing from sony.

Greetings Thomas

I would suggest the SONY DPP SV55 it is 400dpi instead of 300 and the prints look better the DP10. The price is around $290.00 US. still a lot less than the P-400.

I use both in my business....The DP10 works great with qimage for knocking out a dozen or two dozen 'proofs' without working them around much. The digital camera correction makes color fairly accurate.

The larger printer (in my case the Kodak dye sub 8660) makes a much better print and justifies the higher price after the customer has seen the proof....
Ignore the glossy/matte/texture feature of DP10... not worth having.
