Filter adapter for Pro 1

I had a tough time finding one (two, actually, one for my brother-in-law).

Initially I tried through the store where I bought my camera, they were a little helpful, but the person I initially spoke to left on vacation and no one else knew what I was talking about. I went to another store, they "ordered" one for me, called a couple of days later and said they had one, but it was the lens adapter, not the filter adapter.

Next I tried Canon Canada, but they don't deal directly with the public and referred me back to the dealers who weren't giving me much satisfaction. I decided to get smart and try Canon USA. The earlier thread mentioned being able to buy the filter adapters directly from Canon USA. As it turns out I wasn't smart enough, for whatever reason (turf?), Canon USA is hands-off in Canada.

Then I followed the thread mentioned earlier and eventually contacted the company in Florida (Colonial Hobby I think), initially by e-mail, but received no response, so I called. The person I talked to was unsure if they carried the adapter, though eventually he found it, but he said they wouldn't ship to Canada.

Somewhat frustrated, I went back to the original store where I bought my camera (again) and was able to find someone who knew what the filter adapter was and how to order it from Canon. He called the Canon Canada warehouse in Toronto and verified it was in stock. It arrived a couple of days later.

I finally heard back via e-mail from Colonial Hobby, according to their e-mail, they had the part in stock AND they ship to Canada. As it turned out it was the same price in US dollars, plus shipping, so my searching eventually paid some dividend (US$ = 1.25 CDN $, less federal tax, add shipping).

Good luck with your search. It's a simple little piece of plastic - it shouldn't be this hard!

Cheers,

John
