Hi all,

We all down here are just sitting around waiting for Frances to get off her duff and move on.

Some folks are using the delay to fill some sandbags

some of us homeowners got ticked because contractors building the new homes across the street made no preparations for the storm. The porta-potties got tipped over and cinder blocks placed on them so they wouldn't end up on or in our homes

the wind is starting to pick up. These pics were taken in the last hour

take care you all

Hi Harry,

I wish you the very best! Your house is so nice and new and now this...

Are you staying at home fighting the storm?

Good shots, Harry. Looks like things will definitely be picking up there soon.

You guys be safe... you should've evacuated (silly New Yorkers).

We're pondering some hurricane Badminton across the state here if the winds pick up. Should be here late tonight, or early tomorrow morning.

I wish I had an all-weather ping pong table. That would be fun, too....

Oh, I think that green garden hose on the side of that house should be put :-)

I was wondering about the construction company and if they were careful to get all loose stuff gathered and placed in a safe place...you answered my question there.

I was also wondering if any recent plantings of palms and other landscaping items had a chance to really dig deep enough with their roots to withstand hurricane winds. I have no idea how deep palm tree roots go down.

Frances must be frustrating everyone living in the area and looking toward 24 hours of rain and high winds can't be fun either.

Are your electric/phone wires underground? That might help with keeping electric power during the storm.

Thanks for the good wishes. My home should do fine. It was built with the new building codes and these type of houses weren't harmed by Charley in the last go around
Are you staying at home fighting the storm?
Yep.

Sean,
Good shots, Harry. Looks like things will definitely be picking up
there soon.
Thanks. I don't know about the action picling up soon, they're ssaying that landfall won't occur until around 2:00 AM. ;-(

Thanks again. There was no need to evacuate. Our house is solid and I got it all shuttered up and all doors are propped with plywood. I got enough supplies and I'm probably safer here than at one of the shelters. I'm safer here than on the highway with those crazy drivers. ;-)

Mine's been put away but those folks are just not preping for the storm

It was pretty bad. We had to take up their signs they left in the ground, picked up loose stuff all over their sites. The idiots even left loose roofing materials on the roof of one bldg.
I was also wondering if any recent plantings of palms and other
landscaping items had a chance to really dig deep enough with their
roots to withstand hurricane winds. I have no idea how deep palm

I've lost one crepe myrle so far and I'm not opimistics about two of the otehrs. The palms and the magnolias seem to be doing OK. The shrubs and perennials seem to be holding up ok also. I;m worried about the ground becoming oversaturated and drowning em.
Frances must be frustrating everyone living in the area and looking

We just want it to be over already.

The ones in our community are but they feed into above ground wires so we are expecting to lose power some time tonight or tomorrow AM.

If they don't care about their company's supplies, you'd think they'd care about the damage those supplies flying all over the place could cause to others. Oh, I'd be so annoyed. I'm glad your neighbors had the sense to pick up after the construction workers.

Sorry to hear about your plants, next hurricane season they will be in better shape.

Hang in there, take photos while it's safe, and know when to hunker down...

What a drag it must be to just wait and wait and wait though.

Sorry to see you and Linda have to go through this so quickly after moving in, or anytime for that matter!

It will pass, I hope you'll be safe, and I'll be eager to know if that pesky egret weathered the storm to foil you yet again :-)

Michael

Good luck. I'm over here in Orlando so I have to wait a while longer before it gets here. We've already had the feeder bands. I have boarded up the house so I"m stuck in a dark and dreary house. Take care and be safe.

Hey Michael,

The funny thing is that this area has not had a hurricane make landfall near it in a hundred years. That was one of the factors that helped us decide to move here.

He made a visit just the other day and managed to get away before I could get a decent shot. I hope the pain in the butt makes it through ok.

Tell me about dark and dreary. I have steel shutters up and its like living in a tin can. If we lose power it should be fun because we have no windows to opens for any air.

Good luck to you too.

Hey Michiel,
Keep yourself and yours safe Harry, I hope everything will be over
soon and that you'll get your deserved peace back :D
Not to worry. My house is solid and sealed up tight. Its night now and its getting a bit rougher out there. I'm hunkering down now.
Don't you go taking risk for photos now!!!
If I could figure out how to get a night shot in with the rain and wind I might give it a go but fortunately I ain't that smart. The next pics from me will probably be the aftermath shots.
Best of luck!
Thank you very much.
