I've done a couple of weddings and some copy/archive work in the last few months and the camera is holding up to it very well, somethimes I wish for the usual improvements, selectable focus modes and metering modes but it's behaving nicely.

Funnily enough nobody has told me I can't use it or laughed at me because it isn't black. Having said that the 20D looks like it might tempt me away....

for your input, not worried about the laughter or ppl looking sideways (has never bothered me) I was very interested in hearing that the camera was holding up to the task though. Again thanks for the input.

I am doing kids sports photography. I started last spring with softball, did baseball all-stars (5 teams) this summer, and now am doing the midget football and cheerleading teams as well as the fall ball teams for little league. I think the business part took off faster than I ever thought it would. I had to get a business license to operate in town, so check your local ordinances.

The Rebel is holding up well, but I will be getting a 20D and keeping the Rebel as a backup.

This was the sort of thing I am after, I have the necessary paperwork to operate just need the camera now. Not wanting to stretch myself thin money wise is why I am looking at starting with the 300D.

Have made $22K USD since November with the 300D/dReb. Generally I use it for studio-type work: corporate portraits, objects for graphic design, architectural documentation and point of sale merchandising posters. I've also had several photos in the local papers.

I have no interest in the 20D (too much money for slight incremental gain) or the 1Dmk2 (too much money for features and build I don't need, besides it's ugly). If I had the money, I'd next buy a DCS/c or n because they're made for they way I shoot. I figure it's only another year or so for a $2000 10mp 1.3 crop Canon.

I'm shooting youth sports portraits using my Dreb. Just shot 200 kids portraits this last week + doing some High School Senior portraits outdoors.

Have been doing headshots, portfolio work and scenics for about a year now. Not great money but enough to pay for expenses and hopefully a 20 :)

I use all the time in my design work. I make web sites, business cards, postcards, posters and direct-mail advertisements. I also make prints for sale (mostly landscapes and maiko/geisha). It's a great camera, and people here (Japan) seem to take great interest in it (as it's digital). I think the lens you put on it tells a bigger story than the body itself. When I walk around with a big lens, I get all sorts of requests for paid work. I often sell prints of concerts to performers and use the camera all the time in my school to take pictures of events (I own an English Conversation school).

Since applying the "hack" I can now use a lot of features I've been wanting (like ISO3200 !!! - I hate using my onboard flash)

I'll upload a few landscapes for you to peruse later, but for now, here's a recent photo from a shoot of a Kyougen performance (ISO1600)

Regards,
Trent Hansen

I have been toying with idea of doing the schools sports teams nice to know the camera is capable (even if i might struggle) if i should go that route.
I just started using mine to freelance for a local company doing
high school sports. So far I've shot tennis, cross country, and
golf. The Rebel does fine...I occasionally goof. The camera is
only as good as the person pushing the shutter release. My goal is
to become as good as the camera!

I would be very happy to see some of your landscapes, as Tassie has some very nice scenery. I will have to do some research on this "Hack" everybody is talking about though.
Cheers

Would have covered the cost of the camera plus some extra.

I'm a technical illustrator by training and photography was one of the subjects covered and required for my qualification (over 20 years ago now) and I've always been a keen amateur since childhood, as my father is a pro.

I now do web design work and have always used a camera to support clients in providing materials for their sites - that has gradually increased over the years and is a positive selling point for me. I also work part time for a band managing a couple of the sections of their web site and that has gradually extended to photographing their gigs and appearances, both for public viewing on the site and I do portfolios and display prints for the band as well, they like the fact that a lot of what they do is being documented for future posterity. That has led to other live music work for other bands.

I also do prints to sell either directly or locally through gift shops etc. and I have a range of photo greetings cards that I sell myself occasionally at local craft fairs, to friends and family and now shops are taking them too - I just got an order for 72 in the post this morning. So although I wouldn't describe myself as a pro photogapher - I haven't earned that right yet - photography plays a big part in my professional life and is a valuable tool that I use daily.

This is the sort of band work I get paid for:

Big festival 2 weeks ago - my brief was to 'get shots no one else will get':

Charity celebrity soccer tournament:

Private gig for family - one of the very rare occasions where I had to resort to flash as they were required for press use and the venue was very dark, this was one of the frames printed in a lot of newspapers:

And these are typical of the card designs I sell a lot of, the black and whites and wildlife are the best sellers I think overall:
