I recieved a sigma 70-200 2.8 lens today I purchased of ebay, at a very good price (it came as a second chance offer and I was no where near the highest bid offer) It arrived with no lens caps but in a case. The seller stated on ebay it was used as a spare lens and no longer needed (nice to have a lens like this as a spare). The images on ebay were certainly not taken by somebody who as a lens like this for spare. When I asked him directly (an him using a girls name on ebay) on the phone he said he was selling on behalf of a friend who had converted to digital. He or she as been a member of ebay for 3 weeks etc, only feedback is from somebody who as been a member for 4 weeks etc. (dont worry I have sent cheques with no intention of letting them clear till I am satisfied). I was suspicious it was a scam, selling to multiple bidders but no the top bidder had withdrawn for legitimate reasons, and the lens arrived without the cheque clearing. Also sent a report to ebay.

Questions, long shot, anybody in the Uk missing one of these, it came from the bristol area.

Second, is there anyway of checking up on if a lens is stolen ( I have rang the police to ask, but they dont seem interested and you cannot exspect a lot as I have nothing realy but suspicion), does anybody know ways of checking.

Just as a last comment on the phone the guy sounded not very brighti but straightforward. He sent the lens without the cheque clearing, I can find no fault with the lens, it could just be a very good deal

any suggestion appreciated

Tony

I also have found some lens on Ebay going to very silly money - but missing a lens cap, manual.... etc...

£1700 VR lens, went for like £800.... "Brand new" Missing box/manual.

very suspicious.

Gave the details to the police and they just said, what do you want us to do?

Tried to tell ebay - but they just say talk to the police!
