Got me another 717 (pics)

i just wanted to know.....if it came straight from the camera =)
I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later. I have really
missed being able to take IR shots hand held. My neighbor let me
take his 717 for the weekend (still haven't given it back yet) and
I took it to our local arboretum to try shooting some critters. I
pick up the new 717 tomorrow. This time I'm going to keep it:)
Here's a few shots that I took of those little critters, along with
one of my nephew. Now that I actually have a Sony camera again I
can finally come back out of lurker mode....

Don't know what this thing is but it was fun watching him go from
flower to flower...

A butterfly....

Last, but not least, the nephew...

Nice to see you out here. Don't worry about the lurker thing, there are at least as many ex-sony DSLR shooters out here as there are actual sony shooters. This is the place we got our start, and to many of us it feels like home. The locals tolerate us and our DSLR's because they are kind, decent people. Welcome back..

Should I mention your pics are really good? I suppose I should. Your pics are really good :-) (as always)

Take care

Hi and thanks. Yes, I ran all of these through PS.
did you do any post processing? they turned out very well....i
just want to know if that came straight from the camera without
post process.

i can't get that kind of results with my 717 for some reason =)

Thanks James. I agree with you, the 10D and 7x7 cameras do compliment each other very nicely. I tell you, though, having to deal with 10 second or longer shutter times with the 10D trying to do IR shots does get a little frustrating:)
Hi Dwight,

Nice to see you back. :) I hear ya. I really like my 10D, but I
still really enjoy shooting with my F707 from time to time. I
personally think the two cameras compliment each other quite nicely.

Great shots!

James

Thanks. If you mean the 717, I bought one at Sears. If you mean that odd looking little guy in the first couple pics, he was at our local arboretum checking out all the flowers.
Great shots Dwight1973! Where could you find them? I hardly see one
over here in Southern California!

Thanks Rich. I think I went into lurker mode after getting the 300D I used to have. I was one of the first people to get one on the forum and it wasn't a good time back then to post images from that camera;)

As someone else said.. its a Snowberry Clearwing hummingbird moth :)

I've got a whole gallery filled with them hehe!!!

my question is... what settings did you use to capture the little guy???

No doubt! Although, I really like the results when shooting manual IR with either a 10D or my 707. I like Nightshot IR, but I love to colorize manual shots. :)

I have got some pretty good results with the 10D and IR, but only when there's no wind to blow tree leaves around:) I have the little Sigma 18-50 and that lens works nicely for IR shots, so hot spot in the middle like some lenses show.

Here's the settings I used for those two shots:

ExposureTime : 1/640Sec
FNumber : F5.6
ExposureProgram : Aperture Priority
ISOSpeedRatings : 100
ExposureBiasValue : EV-0.7
FocalLength : 45.80(mm)

I also used a 500D for the photos. I've only seen a couple of those little guys around here. Either they are rare, or they are just good at hiding from me:)
