Hi Zane,

Looks like you had to give your shutter finger a case of Repetitive Strain Injury :-)
Did you have to run from side to side of the boat as well??
Beautiful stuff (again..)

You're right, mind blowing - such as the pictures!

I will live my last days in Alaska ... or Antartida :-) Somewhere remote, cold and wild... will S2 survive? looks so :-)

Whoa,dude--such amazing scenes!!! (That comment is from the trailer for the movie "Zane Paxton, Photo Dude! ",starring Zane Paxton as Zane Paxton, with Catherine Zeta-Jones as Zane's wife, and Frankie Munoz as Zane's 15 year old son who says over and over and over, 'Dad, it's just a lake! Dad it's JUST a laaaaaaake!" while Zane busily snaps 300+ photos of the world's deepest lake,Crater Lake.)

I've enjoyed a lot of this Alaska stuff you've posted, and to think it's all been captured in Fuji S2 goodness--imagine that! The first photograph is my favorite, although the "on fire" one rivals it for my attention. Truly an amazing place you've tipped us off to in this Ford's Terror area. What cruise line offers this amazing tour, and how recently did you go? Was your trip timed to coincide with the best photography opportunities,or did you just pick a random time of year? I've been mightily impressed with some of your recent Alaska/inside paaage photos, even though I haven't publicly commented on several of the posts (I skip commenting on a lot of photo posts). Thanks for postin' these Zane.

Zane, I really really hope these are RAW captures. If not, don't tell me. I just don't want to know that.

Robert

p.s. you see, I have some regrets from Bryce Canyon last September...which is when I discovered the advantage of RAW.

Thanks,

I probably shot 250 shots that day .

Here's a shot of the upper deck of the ship. It was a strange contrast of be on this luxurious ship in utter comfort gazing into primitive wilderness. We were on the "Norwegian Spirit". Here's a shot of the upper deck of the ship.

Was your trip timed to coincide
with the best photography opportunities,or did you just pick a
random time of year?
It was totally random except that the weather is the best in late summer. We only saw one whale in the distance; May is probably the best season for Orcas, whales and dolfins.

Thanks,

I probably shot 225 shots that day and wandered all around the upper deck. The upper deck was 4 people deep as we approached the Sawyer Glacier, but as we turned around I had the upper decks all to myself. Ahhhh, a nice Grey Goose on the rocks, my camera gear and this amazing scenery unfolding before me for 2-1/2 hours until sunset. The sweet light of the end of the day enriched the ethereal colors and set a serene and even spiritual mood. Does it get any better than this?

You will be happy to know that I shot 100% RAW on this trip! I collected 11 gigs of data on my Digital Album, but with only USB 1.0 took 4-5 hours to download!

I'm now doing all my work with RAW as one of the biggest challenges as you well know is the dynamic range. I've been using the DRI Pro Utility quite a bit, so in conjunction with the flexibility with RAW is very useful.

Ah, Bryce! I would love go see the southwest again! Bryce was awesome and I'm still impressed with your colors you captured there in Bryce.

Cheers,

OUCH!

Time for a laptop with firewire and/or USB2.0 don't you think? I just filled the larger part of 21 CD's from our trip back east and I used the CF adapter for the PCIMCIA slot. Faster than USB I believe but not as fast as USB 2.0. My laptop does have firewire so I think I should get a card reader for that. I think Dazzle makes one.

What I like about the laptop is taking peeks at the files on the road and being able to burn CD's as I go just in case. Yes, the laptop is bigger but mine is about as thin and light as they come and tucks away nicely in my camera backpack, so no extra carry-on now. Of course that means my wife makes me take an extra carry-on for HER!

Can't win.

Robert
