Does anyone know if the SD10 is compatible with the Belkin Digital Camera Link for iPod? The Belkin website does not list the camera as a tested one that works with their product.

Or, in Belkin's own words, is the SD10 a mass-storage DCF-format or PTP-compliant device?

Thinking about getting one so that I can empty my CF card into my iPod during an upcoming vacation.

Any insights you can share will be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I had thought the SD10 just mounted when I plugged in the cable - I'll have to try but am not sure.

However, it is with heavy heart that I must say I don't think the device is a very good idea, especially for the SD10 user.

To start with it requires its own batteries - it does not just run off the iPod power. So you have two sets of batteries to charge.

Then I have heard it drains the iPod battery terribly fast. Some reports say a full iPod charge will just manage to copy a single 512MB card! That's heresay though, and I don't know anything abou the battery life of the Belkin unit alone.

Lastly it is very slow, USB speeds for transfer it seems like - which is bad use for the generally large raw files the SD10 generates. I really don't understand how this can be when you see how fast files are transferred to the unit via Firewire.

If you were shooting ten JPG's a day it might make for a decent solution for holding images. But for any really heavy shooting you are really going to want a dedicated storage device.

I know where you are coming from, as I really wanted to justify the purchase of a much larger 40GB+ iPod to replace my older 5GB one (which is actually still working just fine). I still even hold out some hope such a device will exist someday, I just don't think the Belkin devices are a very good solution at the moment I would even pay a lot more (like $200) for a really well built unit that would let me use an Ipod as a portable photo storage device as the rest of the time I could use it for other things. So, I wait...

Kendall,

I found this post from you last July 28th 2004 - and wondered if you ever did find a more attrackive mass media repository for your SD9/10 pictures without resorting to lugging a laptop around with you.

Anyone else found a device to enable .x3k backup?

The post is here for your recollection. Rgds Pom :)

I sitll use a Nixvue Vista portable storage device, really just about any of the portable hard drive solutions should work. There is a model someone sells currently that actually can see at least the thumbnails in X3F files, I forget the name - it seemed a bit bulky though. While it would be cool to use the iPod there is something to be said for a device dedicated to backing up photos.

I really wish the P2000 could understand X3F thumbnails, then it would be worth getting. Otherwise it's kind of expesnive if you aren't going to be using that nice screen.
