Seems that the 200-400 is just as hard to find as the 17-55DX. I would think that with the pricetag being a little higher that they would be a little more readily available. I have checked most of the large chains and some of the smaller stores I have used in the past to no avail. Just wondering if anyone has seen a US model that is waiting to be "adopted" into a loving home ;-) thanks for the help.

Rob, I picked one up from Norman Camera in Michigan last week. Let me tell you this is one sharp lens. I think this may be the sharpest lens I have qwned. Competitive Camera in Dallas was supposed to be getting one in Wednesday of last week. Give them a call. Good luck, John

Here's another store: http://www.17photo.com/product.asp?id=2146 I haven't done any business with this store so I can't say whether they're reliable or otherwise.

I got one rather quickly from here (less than 2 week wait):

It is a wonderful lens, very sharp, fast focus, and great bokeh.

I feel your pain. Ordered one in March 2004 and I just got it about ten days ago. I had to use NPS to get one to my dealer for me. They are in extremely short supply. My dealer was helpful by charging me less than $5000 USD, so I was happy I stuck with him. He still has a waiting list though.

By the way, I have been blown away at just how sharp this lens is. I use a D2H with no in camera sharpening and the images look tack sharp without post processing. I used the TC14E with the lens wide open and there is no apparent degradation. This lens is sharper than my 300 f/2.8 AF-I.
