Hi,

I was next to the airport of Toulouse in France.

And i saw this allready huge airplane the A340 wiith an motor three time bigger than the others !

This one is the one that will be used on the A380, the bigest ever constructed airplane.
This was for the story.

I used an D70 + Sigma 70/300 ApoMacro.
I didn't had my monopod with me :( so it could have been better).

Even if the qualiy could be better theses are quite interesting !

Perhaps they will replace the four small engines on the A340 with two of the large ones!

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!

and end up with a Boing 777 competitor? Not a crazy idea.

I have spent a fair amount of time taking pictures at CDG Airport
near Paris, and I would say the real question is why the engines
on the A340 are so small and sleak.

The engines on the A380 are more average size, rather than the
A340 engines being average.

... use larger fans on the front, which are essentially ducted propellers, as most of the air goes around the engine core, a small amount feeding the engine itself (known as high bypass). Even modern huge engines have a core that isn't so much larger than old 'pure' (no bypass) turbojets, such as on the original B-52, 707, and DC-8.

The A340 is essentially a 4 engine A330 (which uses 2 engines)...

Early model A340s (-200s and -300) were underpowered with smaller CFM engines like on the above plane. The newer -500 and -600 models use Rolls-RoyceTrent 880 engines which are only slightly smaller than the A380 engine being tested (the new Trent 990)

There was a facsinating documentary on TV recently about building the A380. A lot of it was focused on how they ship the large sections of the airframe from England to France for final assembly. Unfortunately, I don't remember what channel is was on (History Channel?, Discovery Wings?).
