Anyone have gmail? I love it!

digitaldylan@yahoo please please :P

to the other poster though..you cannot email me a 3MB or yet even a 1MB photo if my hotmail account is only 2MB in total (plus its full of old text emails) i just dont get it, or cannot recieve emails from anyone else..anyhoo

but i would use gmail for archiving images (not personal letters to friends etc ) and the gig limit is a mind blower at todays current limits...good on google, its just what others might do with never-deleted fully searchable emails that is a bit scary..

Have fun
Dylan

This thread is obviously a planted public relations ploy to generate positive buzz about gmail. This is the latest form of "hidden" marketing and is designed to positively predispose an unaware public about a new product. If well done, it's easy to see why many people are sucked in.

Look at the guy's postings:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/postersprofile.asp?poster=hjifikiuhyii

He is a regular poster here and is very interested in photography. If Yahoo hadn't recently upped their sending file size to 10mb, I would be interested in gmail. It was a pain not being about to send large photo files to my brother with the old Yahoo limits.

Regards,bg

Open talk isn't Off Topic Forum, it's a place to talk about photography that doesn't fit into anything else here.

Now for those who lambasted me, EAT YOUR WORDS YOU STUPID CHILDREN!

The idea here is that this is a photography forum. The more we waste space on spam like this the less we talk about photography.

What is more important, SPAMMING us on some junk we don't care about or explaining something or questioning something that simply fits here the best, not in particular camera forum, but out in the open?

Ok, attack if you life, but I really don't care. This isn't the place for SPAM about Google mail. Sorry. Now let it die. Or attack me with your pathetic, childish insults and then let it die. Whatever you wish, internet strong men.
It seems that you need to read what the site owner has to say
regarding Open Talk subject matter.

I am not politically correct. I'm honest instead...

My cousin sent me an invite, and boy, is it great! Anyone else
have a gmail account?
You do understand that you are giving Google permission to scan every email you receive and send to collect data for advertising (spam) purposes? They aren't doing this out of the kindness of their hearts. Is "free" email really that exciting for you?

At least they are up front about it! What about all the blasted adware and spyware that tracks your activity when you surf the net?

According to the definition in the Spybot - Search & Destroy help files:

"Spyware:

In easy terms, spyware is software that transmits personally identifiable information from your computer to some place in the internet without your special knowledge.

"Adware:

A less threatening sort is adware. Adware is similar to spyware, but does not transmit personally identifiable information, or at least the collector promises not to sell it. Instead, aggregated usage information is collected."

Personally, I don't see why the subject is out of place. Those of us interested in photography, welcome the ability to send and store images with larger file attachments that were offered for free prior to Google's gmail.

btw, since I installed Spybot, which I read about in a computer magazine, I'm amazed at how much adware Yahoo gives you. Their mail is not "free" either, they just never told us.

There are some things in life money can't buy but you can capture them with a camera.

How is a thread spamming you? You're the one that has to click it to read it. Don't click it if you don't want to read it!

You are a fool if you believe that any unencrypted email service or client gives you ANY form of privacy.

That's stupid. It takes up space. I can press the mute button so I don't listen to commercials, but it's still taking up space. I can throw away the mail I get from the mailbox that is useless junk, but I still have to look at it.

That's exactly right.

So could't you just PGP everything in gmail?

That would be a cool way to use 1gig of storage without giving up anything.

peace . . .

The secret to being known as a great photographer is simple - NEVER EVER show anyone the bad pictures.

chocolate,

They collect info for ads, yes - not for 'spamming.' Further, all the free email services already scan incoming emails. It's partly how the spam filters work.

Regardless, no human eyes will ever fall on your precious emails. :)
