I felt the same way until I realized I wouldn't be satisfied until I knew that my color management was okay. I was never satisfied with prints from Easy Photoprint, they seemed to be a little too orange/yellow in the skin tones which is a real problem for us Hawaiians/Asians ;-). Of course this is all because Canon's default profiles aren't as accurate as they could be.
I toiled around with ACD Fotoslate for a while and got a taste for what profiling can do to help. I had tried Qimage first and hated it because of the interface. Later when it came time to purchase Fotoslate I decided to give Qimage one more chance. . . I've been a Qimage fan ever since.
You have to give yourself a few days to really try out it's basic features but the power of it really shows vs photoprint particularly in regards to print quality and color accuracy (when using ICC profiles). The learning curve is a little flatter with Qimage but eventually everything becomes clear and intuitive. There are a number of nice things about Qimage that make it so much better than other programs; interpolation, ability to fix any print size you want and place it optimally on any paper size, ICC aware, saving sessions like albumns to print later, having print settings saved for each paper type you use, advanced filters (contrast, brightness, sharpness, color correction etc. etc.) . . on and on . .
There isn't anything I can do in photoprint that I can't do in Qimage in about the same amount of time. The difference would be the quality of the print from Qimage would likely be better, particularly if the photo has been enlarged.
There's no way for me to apply ICC profiles in photoprint, so all of my prints to non-Canon papers are going to be based on Canon settings. This isn't a good thing when you want accurate and predictable color response. I personally don't like Canon's papers so profiling is a must for me.
Of course jumping into color management and profiling is a tremendous leap for those who are on a tight budget. How each of us justifies where we are is up to us . .
If you haven't tried QImage recently there are newer help
files/learn by example tips, but I appreciate you may not want to
use it if you don't need/like the features - up to you really Gail.
Thank you Richard. I do have alternative printing methods that work
fine.
No, I don't care for the interface of Qimage, and don't have time
to hassle with something so non-intuitive. For my needs, I see no
advantage of buying another piece of software.

There are some things in life money can't buy but you can capture
them with a camera.
