Can anyone explain to me the difference between photoflexs gold and soft gold reflector?

also it states that white is the best one to use for portrait coz silver is too harse, will i have a hard time catching good lighting coz white is too soft?

Is Gold or softgold/white a good combo? photoflex which is collapsable guarantees that it will lay flat, is this accurate or will it wrinkle overtime?

The gold gives warming, with specular highlights. The soft gold also warms, with less specular highlights.

You may be using the reflector too far from the subject -- you really need to get it close for it to be effective. Also, learning to see the effects of the reflector takes practice -- it can be subtle. White is my most-used reflector. Keep working at it!

It can be a good combo if you own more than one reflector. But gold has its limitations -- often, it can be TOO warm -- particularly if the ambient light is pretty cool. Also, as you get near sunset, gold doesn't reflect as well as white, in my experience.

The fabric will get wrinkles in it, but I think the point Photoflex is trying to make is that when the reflector is open, it is very taut across the surface.

Forget gold.

As far as being too harsh, gold is just as bad as silver, but the wrong color. I've used a gold reflector one time, and my client was not please about the color correction required.

Forget gold.

99% 0f the time I use a big fomecore board as I never had much luck with either the hard gold or silver. I have seen some "zebra" and "checkerboard" patterned reflectors, they have a combo of silver or gold and white. Looks promising...

I saw photoflex offers softgold/white while westcott has this 4in1 42" reflector that has GOLD/SILVER and another piece that you put on top of it which is a diffuser than turns gold into soft and silver into white. would this be a good choice over the photoflex? plus the westcott has black edges which is good on dirt while photoflex has white...which may be good to avoid reflections on shiny objects...

but im more attracted to the 4in1 westcott coz its sq leaving me with more space to work on. what do you guys thing? if i get the westcott i get 4in1 which isnt like those multidisc which doest give you a flat surface. but i dont know how effective "diffuser on top of a gold = softgold" is.

Well I wouldn't get anything with gold, but I guess I've hammered that already.

Any particular reason you're hot on the whale diaphrams? If I were assembling gear all over again, I'd start with foamcore reflectors. Search CLTHRS posts for how to score and fold.

These really are the best, I use them all the time.

If you are seeking to warm with your fill, I'd do it in post anyway- far more control.

i just need something to start with. i think i will go with the wescott 4in1 and see how it performs.

i guess photogear shopping is all about trying and returning if it doesnt perform as expected.
