Some 50mm tube shots

Thanks. I will try that for flower shots. I mainly use all three of my Kenko tubes combined for bug shots (either for 50mm or 85mm lens).
They look very nice.

What kind of extension tube (in mm) did you use?

Nice shots, I like No. 2 best.

Not much in the way of flowers around Buffalo, NY area yet.

Shoot any birds lately ...I know one bird I'd liike to :)

for me to put down the keyboard and step away ;-) Actually, #2 is the only keeper (she wants it framed for the downstairs bath). We are getting some good variety starting to bloom here (finally) so that is my project - to replace the "canned" flower artwork around here. If I have to see it on my walls it may as well be mine, ya know? As far as something for my mantle.... ~ m²

LOL :)

I know what you mean, these dirtbags pretend they are wanting to discuss photography under obvious false pretenses. I wish I could lower myself to tell them what I really wish to say!

I agree 100%, I've done the same thing.

hello Mark - GREAT shots...I am new with photography and have only had my drebel about a month now...I love your shots and I like to shoot flowers as well and trying to learn more....how did you do your background...do you carry a black card with you or was this done in photoshop? Thanks in advance.

Why thank you - Mike and my wife are right though, #2 is really the only good one there. What I use is black foam core board for business presentations. You can get it at office supply stores. If you need to you can put one flat and one behind and easily clone out the seam. I used to use PS to darken the backgrounds, but its tedious and doesn't look as good.

Here's a couple tips, and others probably have more and better. I use off camera flash, so triggering with the 300D requires either covering the onboard speedlight with the shiny side of some exposed slide film or setting the FEC to it's minimum setting using the software means available (FECset or Wasia firmware). I have a Sigma DG Super with manual power control, and a couple optical slaves (Phoenix and Quantaray - pretty cheap). With three dimensional macros it's definitely good to have light coming from angles to the lens. Flash is better than ambient for blackening the background board. I shoot in RAW and turn up the shadow setting on conversion as well to darken it. Good luck and have fun! ~ m²

Thanks for the great explanation and tips....I will give this a go on my next flower outing...though I still need to get a flash. I'm a bit hesitant to use the Wasia firmware so I may end up getting the 550ex so I get FEC there.
