firmware make focusing worse?

Is it possible that after updating the firmware, the camera is now even worse at focusing indoors? It sure seems that way. Either that or it wasn't great to start with and still is no good.

Any one else with this problem?

Actually, I did notice this. I thought I was crazy. My pictures (indoors) were horrible. I ran the firmware upgrade about 6 different times, maybe thinking that the stupid thing didn't work the first time. Whether it did or didn't, I don't know. But somewhere between 1 and 6 of the times I ran the update, something clicked with my camera and it started taking better pictures. I never changed anything other that installing the firmware over and over. Oh well, I'm not complaining now. I LOVE my camera.

I just bought the camera so have only used the new firmware.

But I read a lot of posts about the focusiing difficulty and I wonder if the firmware mainly serves to warn of inability to focus, where before it did not warn.

I have found that sometimes when I get the blinking green light (isn't that supposed to be the "can't focus" indication?) the camera focuses just fine anyway.

I have not really noticed this camera having a much harder time focussing than other relatively cheap auto focus cameras.

It does not have infra-red focus assist. It has to have sufficient light and contrast for the electronics behind the lens.

Many point and shoot cameras do not accept accessory lenses and so they can have their focus system outside of the lens where it is easier to get enough light. There is only one system that can focus in darkness and that is the old Polaroid sonar focussing system.

When there is innadequate light for the camera to focus the shutter speed will also be slow so there is the increased probability that there will be motion blur which could be confused as poor focus.

I have had the same problem. i took several pictures with the old firmware, most of which came out very good. after upgrading to the new firmware, many of my pictures are very fuzzy.

Does anyone know how to get the OLD firmware back? I would like to experiment with the old firmware and see if my pictures clear up.

Absolutely. I find this happens all the time.

Yup :) So many people confuse camera shake or motion blur with poor focusing. Personally, I think alot of the people who complain about the focusing on this camera are actually experiencing camera shake.

Check your shutter speed, ISO and try using a tripod. See if that makes a difference. If it does, then it's not the cameras fault.

Try reading this a fellow left somewhere in this forum.www.daretobedifferent.com.au/dc4800 and scroll down where the link says indoor photos. Don't use program mode. I did this and my indoor pics are 100 percent better. Actually mine were just dark, not blurry I could brighten them up with paint shop pro, now I don't have to.
