In the product details and tests is wrote that the batery life is:
Sony DSC-V1;
battery NP-FC11 - 2.8 Wh ;
time2 hr 39 mins
number of shots 270

But what is your practice and experience, how long the V1 works on the fully recharged battery if the photos are taken f.g. on the trip (about 100 photos during the day)?

I went through a forest with a friend of mine, shooting with the V1 and 3 batteries (one only half full) I shot 2*128 and 1*32 with only half a battery to spare in the end. All shots were done on fine 5MP (so I used about 2 batteries for the whole series)
hope this info helps a bit!

Be aware of the optics of life!

90mn of life for a small piece of battery... like that... it's not so bad...
and it is very closely accurate... two hours recharge thru the charger...
better to have a second one ready if you like action...

I went to a zoo a few weeks ago with my 2 batteries and came back with one that I hadn't used. I was careful about battery life - not leaving the camera on when I wasn't using it, not reviewing on the LCD - just taking pictures. How many? 250. Plus 4 10 second movie clips. I have no problem at all with that kind of battery life.

That's pretty impressive! It seems that it IS the LCD that's the biggest culprit for battery drain. Too bad you need that LCD so much if you're shooting in anything but the program or automatic modes, though. Be nice if you had access to the settings in a small LCD panel like some of the competitor cams, but then, where would they put it on such a small cam, I guess... can't have it all...

well done, maybe I shouldn't buy an extra battery then, I still have my xt as backup.

The key was -- not REVIEWING on the LCD. I used the LCD to compose for almost every shot. I just didn't leave it on when I wasn't using it, and I didn't look at any of my pictures after I took them. The viewfinder is worthless for composing, so don't think that you should avoid the LCD alltogether.

Just don't live in fear of the battery life. It's mostly hype from my experience.

on your LCD consistent with real battery life? Of course it depends of camera usage, but looks like mine is quite inconsistent.

It quite often displays more than 120 min at full charge, but goes down more quickly than I expect.

This beeing said, I almost never exhausted my batteries while shooting.

My advice, don't let it influence your decision. Get the camera you want, If you need spare batteries get them too. It's too easy to get hung up on little details, differences between models stopped me buying for months - months I could have been taking pictures.

I have not been at all alarmed by the battery duration on my V1, if anything pleasantly suprised. I haven't counted how many pictures it will take - to many variables (time composing shot, zooming in/out, using/not using lcd, having on ready to shoot/switching camera on and off, flash/no flash) but it seems to take plenty :-)

That time is an controlled test time. My experience with the V1 is that it lasts 1h 30min app. , but I do take a lot of photo's at night (long exposure, flash, night framing).

I would advise you to buy another battery as a spare. You can't go wrong.

do the generic FC11 batteries on ebay function the same way as the Sony batteries (with the time left function and chip intelligence) or are they just a compatible power source?
