any benefit to printing at 2880 w/ velvet?

i'm going to be going through a print run of 10 12"x12" photos tonight. they're all 12"x12" @ 360dpi. i know the velvet fine art paper has "enhanced 1440 printing" or whatever, but will i be able to see finer detaisl w/ 2280 (or will it not hold with that paper)?

I haven't tried it, but my guess is that the ink gain on the matte paper is such that 1440 is better. That's all I've ever used, and I go through about 100 sheets of 13x19 Fine Art paper every month.

Wehn I tested my 1280 on glossy paper, I saw no real improvement in performance between 1440 and 2880---only a very slight improvement in the banding.

With my drivers, a matte paper setting does not even give you choice of 2880.

If your original image file has good detail you want to preserve and have an excellent paper profile using the matte black ink,I would say yes.Under close examination you will see improved shadow detail.

Premier Art's 12"x12" matte scrapbook paper for Epson is a great paper to proof your production or even use in place of the velvet.I think it's very similar to the new ultrasmooth at a much lower price.

When working with the velvet dust off with brush or aerosol each sheet before printing.

Maybe it's self-delusion, but I've persuaded myself I can see a bit more local contrast & shadow detail at 2880 on VFA.

The test would be to make a print with lots of fine shadow detail at both dpi's, write it on the back, & see if we can identify them at a rate better than chance.
