Just wanted to show you something.. :) I just bought a Mudan twinreflex 6x6 camera.. Really nice camera.. And I'm going to use it for checking colors.. (I'll use Kodak professional portrait 160 film)

If you like to, you can compare some studio photos..

It's not bad to see what color could have been and what we should aim for.. There is a link to my studio folder for comparison..

I get less grain with consumer 400ISO 35mm negative film if I use Nikon Super CoolScan 4000ED to scan it. Of course I use Digital GEM which helps with the grain a lot.

Hi Carl,

Nice work. I did similar things to what you have been doing and got completely different results. I have tried the gollowing combination Vs my trusty SD10 in studio and outdoor:

1) Hasselblad 501 & 503 CM with 50mm, 80mm, 100mm 150mm

2) Kiev 88CM (Soviet Hassy) with 30mm ARSAT fisheye and 50mm 80mm 120mm and 180mm CZJ lenses
3) Mamiya 645 AFD and Pro TL with 45mm, 55-110, 105-210
4) Rollei 6008I2 with 50mm, 80mm and 150mm

I used a Agfa T2500 Scanner to scan the Slides and negatives. The slides that I have used are Agfa RSXII (Best color accuracy) and Kodak VS100 (Vibrant and Saturated color). The negatives that I used are Kodak VC160, NC160 and Agfa Optima Prestige.

The result......SD10 put up a good fight! It came close to the Mamiya in most circumstances but when it comes to portrait and macro shots, Mamiya has a slight edge, not that much tho. As for comparison against the 6x6, overall the 6x6s have better performance in different areas. Hassy is sharp and have good color accuracy, it is great for product shots. The Kiev 88 using CZJ lenses on the other hand is great for portrait, but does not perform as good as the others in low light regions. The Rollei is vibrant in color, because of HFT but I found it a little too saturated, it seems to be pretty good for landscape and low light shots.

Next time when you are in town, I can show you the prints that I took with these 120 cameras Vs the one taken by SD10

Carl, if your scanner is noisy, maybe you need to shoot your slides with the SD9 to digitize?

You will always be the portrait expert. I still remember when you first posted (20 years ago?)...............

Thanks for the great images

Carl,

A new 6X6 camera - that sounds great for landscapes. In particular, I like the "View from Western Mountains" with its foreground colors and textures. "Villiage Boy" has a classic look to it; like it will be a good one (famous) for years to come.

Congratulations on your new camera. It will be interesting to see how you assign the roles between your cameras.
