I use an epson 820 printer with decent results but I've noticed that the black ink prints out unevenly (shinier in some places than others) and when under glass in a frame appears like it's stuck to the glass. Anyone else have a problem like this either with black ink or epson? I use Kodak Ultima matte paper

I think the Kodak paper may be the problem. I've been using an 820 for a little over 2 years with Office Depot Premium High Gloss and never had a problem. I print between 40 and 50 8" X 10" each week during racing season. I use non OEM ink.

You can't unsay a cruel thing.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague and don't assume malice for what stupidity can explain.

Just from the thread title I thought is the print on Kodak paper?

Kodak papers are not instant drying and will be tacky for some time after printing.

Your best bet is to use the film setting in the driver, high speed off and 2880 dpi if doing non-borderless, but even then ink will tend to pool/coalesce in the darker areas.

Jeff, as in the other post, what printer are you using. Would it be a Canon? Printers that are fast and dump a lot of ink on the page in a hurry can "pool" the ink if it is not absorbed fast enough. This is more of an issue with fast printers and is made worse with paper that is "swellable" compared to "porous". See this link for more detail on the types of paper.

It is the ultima paper. I have the same problem using that paper on my HP 882. I just bought a Canon S9000 and a load of Canon paper, so i'm going to use up the Ultima paper on less important pictures.

First off he plainly says he is using an epson.

Second the problem is the paper as other's have stated. This can happen with any dye printer using swellable paper. I quit using this type of paper in my printers, hp first then canon, because humidity can cause it not to dry properly and also even if it's dry it can cause it to later stick to glass and album sleeves because it's not water resistant. Humidity will cause non water resistant paper to become tacky again. Kodak and HP paper is both very bad about this, even in hp printers. So it's the type of paper, and it can happen in all of them, epson, canon and hp alike.
