In an official press release, Fujifilm Netherlands states that the battery depletion with some types of CF-cards (see below) is NO camera defect, but is caused by the CF-card itself and is not covered by the warranty. Fuji therefor does not offer a repair free of charge, but against limited cost (being the transport costs from owner to service centre).

In the official UK statement it is clearly mentioned the the repair service is completely free of charge. Also they're NOT saying that it's not a camera defect. Conclusion is that the Dutch are treated differently from the English, about which I'm not amused. But then again, I wasn't going to send in mine anyway...

CF-cards known to cause battery depletion (as officially stated by Fujifilm Netherlands):

SanDisk 512MB ULTRA
SanDisk 512MB ULTRA II
SanDisk 1GB Blue/red
SanDisk 1GB ULTRA
LEXAR 256MB 12X
LEXAR 320MB 12X

lexar CFs have been reported as not causing the problem by the fuji forum members. i have also been told by fuji (slovakia) about sandisks and lexars. they might share the same CF cards report. has anybody experienced the drain with those lexars listed bellow?

Yes i heard always postive reports about Lexar cards in this forum, and I have myself a Lexar 256 CF which is giving no problems, but it's a 16x and Fuji mention the 12x as source of problem, maybe there is a difference...

This is certainly a silly problem, buying a CF card it's a kind of russian roulette...

I praise Fuji UK for offering the repair, but on the other hand this might make other users outside UK furious for not having the same service. The best would have been a global approach driven from Fuji Japan and available in all the Fuji services worldwide.

Just by taking a look at this crowded forum it's obvious users are not divided by national barriers, they share the same information worldwide. Do the manifacturers understand this?

Typical answer from an European representative of a global company. In Italy they'd treat you even worse, typically they just don't answer you unless you call them 100 times and when they answer they are really arrogant. Add they are always late introducing new products on the market and the prices are by far higher than in other countries, accessories are always out of stock or even unknown.

I am so tired to deal with these people I try to buy everything in US. I hope they will be all fired, so that they understand that if they get a salary is because the "silly users" buy the products.

That's not a problem in Italy or Netherlands only. It happens in a lot of european contries, but perhaps Italy as well Portugal and, I think, Greece are the worst cases.

Anyway, I couldn't find any information about that S7000 press-release on Fuji regional sites of France, Spain and Portugal. It seems to be a UK exclusive.
