WARNING : important message, PLEASE read.............

I can understand your annoyance about not having your photo
properly acknowledged but keep your hair on. If you put your work
into the public domain without a proper safeguards this will happen
sooner or later. Regard this as a lesson learned.

PS - brave words but your chances of sueing for damages are
negligible. The actual costs entailed would make such action unwise
particularly as they don't live up the road from you!
how would YOU know where they live?????????

Just because it's a chinese site, doesn't mean they LIVE in china?

I'll find out sooner or later and base my subsequent action NOT based on where they live but, if I can so much as scare the cr_p out of them, that's what I'll do!! If I do nothing..........

then this guy tells his friends I don't care enough to do anything about it!!
Or, he just keeps on keeping on what he's doing!

Sad low life! (not you, him!)

One of my images from one of the challenges was STOLEN by a low
life son of a itch and, posted at a photo sharing site called
DCFever.com

I posted this in STF also to warn them as well!

This REALLY pi_sses me off!!! I am posting this as a warning to
ANYONE and everyone on STF to be Very careful what you post on the
internet, where you post it and, who you are allowing to view it.

I will no longer be posting any image of note to the challenges....
no more!!

Sure, this could happen to ANYone, anywhere, at anytime. The fact
is though... it happened HERE at STF challenge and, if that person
can steal MY image, he can steal yours also and pawn it off as HIS
image as he did with my image.

SOmeone was nice enough at usefilm.com to tip me off as the the
theft and misrepresentation of my image on the DCFever.com website.
This is SUCH a bummer and really is discouraging to me to say the
least.

The important thing is: make sure if you ARE going to share an
image, that it's not one that is very important to you!!! I'm not
discouraging you from posting at the STF challenge...... just
telling you to beware WHAT you upload to make sure it's an image
you really do not care to much about!!!

here's the link to the jerk to stole my image, along with images of
OTHER STF MEMBERS IMAGES: Klaus Weise, Roberta F and a few others.

http://www.dcfever.com/photosharing/viewphoto.php?photoID=82897

And since the site takes SO long to open, here's the image place
holder where my WAS posted.......

and a second image showing the comments about the stealing of my image

AND, the actual image he STOLE and presented as HIS

I will tell you this: I will track down this low life and, I will
sue him for ANYTHING I can get....... anything!

Sorry to put a damper on your day......... mine also! :-(

steal someone else's work for a contest? Geeee, beyond my imagination, guess he'd better make sure the winner prize's over the $10,000 fine for stealing though.

but the sad thing is that i dont really think you can do something to hunt the guy down...but at least you can send the webmaster a messeage to explain this.
In a contest no less!

Some guy in China once ripped off my graphic design directory at http://www.adigitaldreamer.com

He called it something else but used all the graphics and links and everything. He changed the banners to make money for himself. I threatened legal action, but still nothing happened. It's very hard to do anything against some people from some of these countries. Finally after many nagging emails and months later, they took the site down.

So I know what it feels like. I've also had images stolen as well, although I'm not that concerned about low res ones as much. That's why I NEVER post full size shots on Pbase, at least ones that aren't more than technical samples... Some people add a sig to the image. I hate adding it, but I think I'll start doing that more now.

Sorry to hear that one Mark.

If nothing else then....... my message post has opened the eyes of the photographer here in the forum and, given them reason to be more cautious with their work. That's partly why I posted this!

Seems there ARE truly good people in this world!!!

Some people are already helping me TRACK down this low life......

to which I say THANK YOU very much for your assitance!!

Check out the low life.........

i fully agree here, anyone who really wants to pirate your stuff will find a way around it. it will end up being an investment for nothing.
i personally hate the no-right click things. it doesn't enforce
anything, only annoys users.

imo, a copyright message is more effective.

second thought: the negative side is, as Mark mentioned, some of us here in the forum would be reluctant to post their photos anymore....too bad!

one solution to my mind is:

for those who concern, how about put some signature on the photo during the postprocessing phase, such as name signature, source website, etc?

Mark, you have my sympathies, but i'm not sure suing this guy will really get you anything.

Chances are you'd have to prove some kind of monaraty damages based on his copyright infringment before you would be entitled to any money. Atleast i think that's how it works.

At best, you can file a complaint with the web site, then their ISP, if the site doesn't do anything about it. Most of these sites have rules against copyright violations. You might be able to get the sap banned and ruin his rep amoung his community.
man, as a fellow photographer I really am upset alongside of you,
for I know how much you put in into your work! I sure hope you find
this guy...

We'll soon SEE about that! Maybe you are absolutely correct. But you know what.....

I'm not going to let this guy feel that I don't CARE if he steals my images!
I will do whatever I can to discredit him or whatever is possible.......

wherever I can

this hurts too...since many of us are in pre shopping stage for some model and really appreciate to see full size original, unprocessed photos.

check my solution above...imho, that sounds better
A 720 pixel wide image is worthless on the market. I will not go
any larger than that when I post.
Sorry this happened to you.

I might add: you can give samples of pictures at full size without making it one of your nicer scenes. I have plenty of photos that are good examples of what a lens or method will do without it being one of my better compositions.

i guess some people out there on the edge of purchase decision making do care about the photo quality, saying size, unprocessed original to view the details rather than being bothered by any signature on anyplace on the photos....imo.

sounds better than shrinking the photo though...people are at decision making for specific models do not really concern about the compositon...but
for size, quality....oh, i bet they do
