Well - the weather was gloomy - drizzle and fog, but the grandkids were promised a trip to the zoo. It was my first attempt at using my 7i at the zoo, so everything was an experiment. The first pic is at ISO 200, second at 400, and third / fourth at 800. All were handheld and the last two shot through glass indoors (#3 was with internal flash - too lazy to get out the DG Super - hence the burned-out highlights). They are all resampled and downsized. I printed these at 5 x 7 and the results were all amazingly good.

Thanks Jose... I've been admiring your shots (especially the sports shots) for many months now. It's amazing how much I have learned since May in DPReview forums!

The zoo is the Columbus (OH) Zoo and Aquarium. You may have seen the Director Emeritus, Jack Hanna, on TV (frequently on David Letterman & Jay Leno). It's a great zoo and getting better each year.

You shot some pics thru glass, any tips, I am trying to take pics
of an indoor aquarium (tourist, not home) I have a Dimage AI
I may have been lucky, but most of the shots through glass came out pretty good. Shoot at a slight angle, not straight on (to minimize reflections). I used the flash on the lizard pic, and in retrospect, I should have set the ISO back to 100.

The ones that came out poorest were the aquarium pics, but it was the manatee pool and the glass was several inches thick and the lighting poor (also, I did not have a white card with me to set the white balance). I think with some experimentation you'll be able to get some good pics. Be sure to use manual focus w/ magnification when shooting through the glass (depth of field is pretty shallow with close-ups - see the snake pic).

I'll check the EXIF data to see if I can get you more info. I may have used manual exposure on several of the pics.

Just love your zoo shots! I'm hoping to learn from this forum as well. It's looks like you've done well for yourself!

Thanks! I have a renewed faith after taking these pics (actually, b4 hanging out in DPReview, I was hopeless as a photog - lol). They are by far the best I've shot with the 7i and rival anything I ever did with my old Nikon FE. I give the credit to all of the great teachers on this and the retouching forum - and lots of books and time spent "fiddling".
