Hello All:
I'm very busy these months. (overhelmed with work like Dirk says)

No much time for visiting the forum but I want to share the first part of my shots taken during my trip to Uruguay (Montevideo & Punta del Este)

This series has shots taken at 30 seconds of exposure, using a handheld "ear synchro flash".
All straight from the camera and some USM

I hope you enjoy them

Martin,

Look at it this way - it's damn good that your busy

I like the the last 2 best - seems like your going for the artificial light these days - any reason ? I kinda prefer natural light but mayby I should start to explore a bit more too. I am having great fun with an SC-17 cable (flash extension cable from the D1X to SB-80DX - I get some wonderful effects esp. when I hand hold the flash to get "odd" lighting on the subject)

Havent seen you here for a while either - good to see you back here.

Merry Xmas,

Hi Martin,

Very nice to see you back...I was commenting to jacques in another thread that I had been missing your work quite a bit lately. These are striking flash aided long exposures...evokes the work of contemporary photographers like Philip Lorca di-Corcia and Gregory Crewdson. I've been attempting the mood of shots like these myself for some personal projects, though to date I haven't used flash but instead used low light ambient sources, like tungsten and car headlights.

Of these, my favorite overall is the second (beautiful composition, and the contrast of the lighthouse and the model are exceptional), followed by the first and the last.

Thanks for sharing these, and I'm glad to hear the S2 is producing such exceptional work for you.

Best,

Robert

hello Simon

thanks for the compliment

I used flash on these because the light of the night is very very poor. The beach images has only the moon as available light. even when the model kept quiet during the 30 seconds with no flash on these will be just a phantom :-)
I like to do this kind of experiments outdoors, tired to do just at studio.

Really great pictures. I wonder hot did you manage to do it? Were you standing on the chair all 30 secs??? What equipment did you use

Hi Martín,

Your branching out to new styles has produced some of your best work. These are wonderful photos. Keep up the great work. I hope that you get a break and get to enjoy the new year.

Hi Martin,

Whaaww I really love these and I love your ear synchro mode and done at 30 sec. you have some room for errors to press the flash. I did this kind of experiments to a few times but I did it more for fun to give some use at my flash, just like you I'm not a flash friend, and we seem to have a lot in common, also just like you a real agnostic and as you mentioned overwhelmed with work (haha). After seeing your fantastic results here, I absolutely love the first one, I will give this also a try in the future but mostly I am not found of spending to much time on planning and setting up a shot but as I absolutely like your results it seems to be worth doing that. DId the persons in the image run out of the image quickly after firing the flash or did they try to stand still for 30 seconds ? Nothing to do here now for the moment then as it's freezing. I think that I can see that you love your S2, since you have it you amazes me by becoming better and better all the time and it boosts your creativity to.

Con gran respetos,

Dirk

Equipment is not the issue. It's all about vision.

Hallo Martin,

Fantastic work, so intense a battle of dark and light.
The S2 is a part of your eyes!

After a period of 'no time' even on this forum, I was very happy and surprised to open your images!
Compliments is not enough.
Warm regards Miel

ps we don't need an extra S2 but a clock with 32 hours.

fantastic series of photos. The 1st one is stunning!

Very well done.

Hi Martín,

no need to appologize of course! Earning your food is still more important then visiting a forum, although it's a very small difference in importance ;-)
This series has shots taken at 30 seconds of exposure, using a
handheld "ear synchro flash".
I've never seen long-exposure portraits, the best of your creative mind at work!

http://iso1600.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos/ {DFB75F40-F0DB-4885-BD6F-999120EA3CFD} {097DFDE2-B4CA-4BFB-970B-4A4E76F574D3}.jpg

I like the central composition a lot in this one, and the reflection of course. Only if the subject had been female instead of male :)

http://iso1600.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos/ {DFB75F40-F0DB-4885-BD6F-999120EA3CFD} {75CCCEB3-1B83-4CFD-947F-3025020CFE33}.jpg
ah...lovely subject...although I wished you had framed a bit more to the right.

http://iso1600.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos/ {DFB75F40-F0DB-4885-BD6F-999120EA3CFD} {DAD6B62C-4AD3-46F2-AAF6-4F61AA4DD101}.jpg

euh...straight from the camera? I suppose she moved during the 30s exposure? Unfortunately I don't really like that effect, although the light is very strong in this image.

http://iso1600.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos/ {DFB75F40-F0DB-4885-BD6F-999120EA3CFD} {7BEB52F6-DACA-4187-B4B7-81324F66051E}.jpg

Even although the subject isn't my favorite gender, this ís my favorite of the series without any doubt!

http://iso1600.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos/ {DFB75F40-F0DB-4885-BD6F-999120EA3CFD} {A0E23770-5884-4EFC-B439-F531BA3F6F94}.jpg

I've seen a pic like this one before, and still love the idea. Maybe I would crop out the black areas though, to get a more intimate look at the people.

This was a great series to look at Martín, I really enjoyed them all.
regards,
