Whos actually "in the Market" for a new Camera?

You shoot, shoot and shoot. By the end of the session, you show the model/client/familly etc all of the shots already on the computer. They place their order right there and then. If you can show the shots right there on the spot without making the client wait, you will get more orders...

I definitely am!

I've wanted a Digital EOS 3 even before I bought my D30 (which I still have and use as a off-and-on amateur), but I'm beginning to become more and more convinced that Canon has no intention of releasing something like that. A shame, really.

I'll probably get something that will be released in 2004. I'm not married to Canon, but I will admit I feel some unnatural loyalty to them. This year will be very interesting though with all the rumors floating around. Nikon with a modular DSLR? That will be quite interesting. I'm becoming more convinced that Fuji has the best sensors, but it's a shame their bodies suck so bad. I'll be looking very very closely at whatever Minolta comes up with. I've always thought that Minolta bodies were the best, and their complete lack of a DSLR has always been a profound disappointment.

I only have a minimal to moderate investment in Canon gear, so brand switching is not out of the question for me.

Keeping an open eye, and an open mind!

I can't imagine doing that. It would be a PITA. But the results are nothing short of amazing. What I like to see is the predicted performance of other MP results. I have to admit, that the 50-140 MP range should be considered a practical maximum. 50MP for a stunning 20X30 (I have done this) and 140 MP for a stunning 50X33 (Still want to try this).

802.11 would be very nice indeed!
Teski
8 megapixels? Quite possible.

8 fps? At least . . . I suspect perhaps 10.

40 frame buffer? Probably more than the current 1D.

Improved AF? This is where I disagree. But I hope you're right.

Improved AWB? Not sure how they'd do that, other than let it have
a wider range of Kelvin that it could use in AWB mode.

Replay zoom? Probably like the 1Ds has, yes.

Optional 802.11g? Possible. Though I really fail to see a
reason for it.

The CMOS vs CCD prediction seems easy. CMOS . . unless they simply
can't make it fast enough.

OK, so we basically agree. ;)
I say 1.3x, 8mp, 8fps, 40 frame buffer, improved AF and AWB,
improved noise, ISO to 6400, orientation sensor, replay zoom,
optional 802.11g, initial street price $3999. No prediction on
CMOS vs. CCD though.

i am buying a 1ds and dumping my nikon/kodak's....i just wonder if it is a good time to buy with something new on the horizon (but will that ever change?) I was thinking about a 1ds and a 1d.....but i might hold off on the 1d for a bit and just get the 1ds for now.Anyone have an idea how long before a "new" 1d will come out? or is this all speculation?

As soon as the 1Dr comes out (or even before or after, who knows) I will be taking the plunge and getting a 1D because, by then I hope I can afford it (as I need it).

To tell you the truth, the 1D (or maybe even the 10D, if I can live with it's lameness compared to the 1D) will do me just fine! I personally don't need more than 4 MP, I REALLY don't need 8 fps as I'm a peak-action shooter, not a machine-gun shooter.

So, basically, when people start selling their 1D's for cheap when the 1Dr comes out, that's when I'll be investing, unless I go ahead and buy the Nikon D1 (and the 135 f2, such a wonderful lens)...

Whatever get's the job done!

despite the speculation . . .

??

Not me per se . . .

Frankly, I don't see the used 1D's coming down much in price. B&H has used D60's for $1,475. The 1D will still be an outstanding camera even when the replacement comes out.

Cheap(er) would be closer to $2000 rather than the $2500 (to $3000) you can get it for now. I don't see it coming down a WHOLE bunch, but $500 I'd say yes... DEPENDING on what the 1D-r brings to the table and at what price (very important to the price of the 1D).

In all actuality, the 1D might not change price at all... Maybe, maybe not... We won't know till it gets here.

As far as used D60's at B&H, they sell for $1149 in the used department, you must be looking at the new 10Ds or something... That's a drop of some $1000 from the original price, right?

The longer I wait, the less value the 1D will have, therefore the cost will go down (in reference to used bodies, not new)... I bet I can buy a used 1D legitimately for $2000 by February/March of 2004.

I am still shooting slides! still haven't seen a digital I want (or can afford).

PMA 2004 is D Day for me, one way or another I'll be at least a compact digicam in the next 3-4 months and hopefully also either new 1D or 3D if it ever comes to pass.
