Can the A1 can be used for professional work? Are there any specific instances that can be cited someone using it for pro print work? In a regional magazine (printed 4 color, coated stock, 150 line screen) would you be able to pick out a shot taken with an A1 as opposed to say 35mm?

Specifically I am wondering if it would work for shooting for print production: real estate (site, architecture and interior), product setups model/apparel....?

Thanks much for any information.

Yes. You most likely will see a difference. The A1 shot is quite likely to be superior!

Dorian,

One of my sons is using a 5 megapixel cam for professional work in...of all things...a regional magazine.

He's still using film in medium format for the archtecture shots, but I'm not sure if that's a quality issue or because he doesn't have the digital software skills down yet.
Of course, when you need a view camera's corrections, there's no substitute.

I have used my A1 in a regional newspaper I published until recently, with great results.

It should do quite well for publication, as I've used the Minolta D7 (before getting the 10D) for quite a few shots that have been sold for magazine ads, point of sale display, and even for a billboard shot last year, as well as art prints to 13 x 19" (many with noise reduction via NeatImage). The main weaknesses are low light photography, and while the AF is fast, it's still not to the speed of most SLR's, for action shots. Lack of control of DOF also probably wouldn't be an issue for real estate photos, although having only 28mm EFL on the wide side may not be enough for interiors. I would doubt that you would notice a difference between the A1 image and 35mm film. The prints I'm getting look better than most 35mm I've shot, except for slow speed slide film, and Cibachrome prints.
