HELLO,

IS THERE A DSLR THAT ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE LCD TO TAKE PICTURES VS USING THE VIEWFINDER. I WAN TO UPGRADE FROM MY CANON G2 TO A DSLR, BUT MY WIFE HATES TO USE THE VIEWFINDER. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP ON THIS. THANKS.

This topic is covered a lot. Unfortunately the only thing you're going to find that is relatively currend and a true DSLR (though some argue not) is the Oly E-10/20. About the only alternative is a viewfinder video camera and external display. bottom line is if you want a DSLR you'll have to use the eyepiece.

Well, you could get one of the Nikon F5 based Kodak models and get a speed finder.....

Get a Minolta Dimage A1. It's the closest you can get to a dslr with an excellent tiltable LCD display. It has more features than many SLRT's and even some DSLR's., and a 28 - 200 zoom which covers most needs.

what about the A1's resolution, noise etc. I have a canon G2 now and get great results with it, do you feel the A1 can produce the same image as the G2. Thanks for your help.

The A1 is a good camera by all indication and seems to be the camera the D7 (I've had one for two years) was supposed to be but it is by no stretch a DSLR or even SLR-like. I recently moved to a D100 and only regret not doing it sooner. I have vastly better battery life since the cam doesn't power the viewfinder. It has a viewfinder I can actually focus with. Zero shutter lag and zero lag from power on to taking a shot. All that is gravy on top of making vastly better images than are possible with any 2/3" CCD digicam.

I have a Minolta 7Hi for 10 months now. I'm very happy with it ( I also have a film Minolta 700si SLR ) and have even usd it for photographing two weddings, producing superb 11x14" albums. I hava several times blown up images up to A3 size with excellent results. I mostly use ISO 110 and 200, but have also shot several ISO 400 and some ISO 800, obviously showing some noise ( mainly at ISO 800 ) , but made them perfectly usable by using Neat Image for noise reduction.

I have tested the A1 and it has evn more features than the 7Hi, has the excellent Anti Shake and fabulous ergonomics ( actually Phil's review rates it even better than the 7Hi ). My intention is to sell both my Minoltas and buy an A1 with the battery grip.
I relly believe yhe A1 to be a winner!
