Any Canadians here previously ordered from BHPhotovideo? I am still waiting for my order to arrive 10 working days later from when they emailed me to say it's been sent, 4 days after placing the order.

Notwithstanding that it's the US Thanksgiving, the parcel should have been here long ago by postal air, should it not?

Just curious.. I'm looking to place another order with them, or with someone else..

Just looking for a warm fuzzy feeling that everything is fine.. =)

Cheers!

I used UPS Expedited, without any problems.

They are great to deal with.

Hi all and Jack, got a question, I haven't bought anything from the US on the net for quite some times, wonder about tax and all when it cross the border, any surprise ?

Thanks

It looks like there was a problem with my order, it didn't ship
though I was billed.. I have to wait until Monday to sort this
out..dang..
I think they're open on Sunday. Try them tomorrow. A week and a half is about right for US Postal delivery from B&H to Ontario. When you say "billed" what do you mean? Is it charged to your credit card or just an amount "put on hold"...I forget the term credit card companies use for this.

The charge was put on my CC on the 17th of Nov. I checked again with their site tonight and it shows the item as being ordered on the 14th but processed and shipped on the 17th. No tracking..

Hoping now that it's monday-tuesday before I see it..

Call them and get a tracking number, I've never had anything but great service from B&H.

Generally speaking, if you use the Postal Services it usualy comes to you directly and skips the nasty people that Paul used to work for..

But if you use UPS you end up paying them for the priviledge of them being able to hand carry the package from one side of the counter to the other, usualy an additional $25 or more.. and then the usual land-pirate rates that NAFTA didn't deem fit to work in our favour.. (yeah me jaded over that deal!)

But anything sent via postal service tends to be cheaper, though a little lengthier in time delivery..

Don't worry about B&H - I'm sure it'll work out. I just received a $US1000 order. I ordered on a Thursday, it was shipped on a Monday and I received it on Thursday.

I'm in Montreal.

I used the same shipping method (US Mail - expedited) as you, and if you email B&H they will send you a tracking number forthwith.

Oh - and don't dance and sing when the parcel arrives with no taxes due - they WILL send you a bill in the mail for GST and PST. On my US$1000 order they charged only C$6.00 for brokering fees. It was delivered to my door by Purolator.

I emailed them wednesday and erhm still waiting.. they must be a solid brick and mortar company if no one's answering the mail on a weekend after holidays? No worries.

LOL, the no taxe dance.. My worse case was when I purchased some printer memory from the US which cost $9.95.. but by the time I would have finished paying the fees, taxes and duties AND the UPS land pirate's fee, that $10 stick of mem would have cost me $80. Dunno how, dunno what but I refused the order at the door and canceled my CC on it. Bullocks I say..

Cheers

Thanks David, glad to hear that !!

I was browsing on the net a local camera shop (actually it's the biggest Canadian vendor on the net, won't name it though) here and I simply can't believe how big is the difference in price between what we pay here and what B&H offers.

It's like they forgot to adjust the prices since our dollar came up. One example, a EF 100 F/2 USM is sold 985$ CAN then add taxe : 1132$ CAN and at B&H, they sell it at 364$ US !! Even when I calculate the exchange rate + S/H , I get 516$ CAN. Sorry to say for that Canadian store but they sell at 219% the price I can get from B&H.

Cheers

I 'used' to buy my stuff there.. knowing which store you mean.. The price I paid for my 420EX I could have had a 550EX and more.. CDN $ is doing well compared to the US $ so it's time to go shopping =)

14 days delivery and still waiting from BH though.. Hmmm might have to try someone else next..

The problem is the delivery service you picked, even BH warns it has no tracking. I bet it's been lost/stolen in the US mail system.

I recommend using UPS Expedited. You get a tracking number, insurance and 2 day delivery. Best of all BROKERAGE fees are included in the shipping!

So for appx $30 US, you will have the item in 2 days, and can watch it on UPS's site as it moves. Given the large savings buying from the US, it's worth spending the extra $15 on choosing UPS to ship via air.

Just dont pick UPS ground or they will add crazy brokers fees. Only with UPS expedited or UPS Express is it included.

Our dollar is still going up, prices are getting even better.

I just wish CAnon CAnada would adjust prices, local dealers are loosing so much business. I would much rather buy locally, put will not pay $200-300 extra to do so.

hey, that's not the warm fuzzy feeling I was waiting for, what are you doing! ack

Huh, I doubt that.. though the shipper pays the fee in the USA, we canucks still end up getting the shaft on the recieving end here when the parcel is delivered.. Always been that way when they show up at the door.. hence why I used postal.. but, you're right, I shoulda read the fine print.

Ahh there's my mistake.. dang.. thought UPS was UPS.. now I know..

I bought my camera locally, cost me an extra $100 after taxes.. felt it was a wise move as it's easier to deal with the top shop than having it shipped out..

Not only that, but if worse case scenario happens where my 300D fails just prior to a shoot, I bring it it for a fix, 'buy' a new one and bring it back for a refund within 2 weeks.. nice guys..

Ups expidited.. dang...

Still, it would have been nice if BH would have replied to the emails I sent them or perhaps they felt it wasn't worth the while?

Hi Peter,

100$ after taxes !

I hope you don't mind my asking, but how much did you pay ? Seems alot more expensive than that here in Montreal.

Thanks,

Guy

I found BH has excellent customer service, just call the 1-800 customer service number.

Hi guys.. the package arrived this morning, 3 weeks after I ordered it.

And I ended up paying a flipping $27 PaulMartin tax at the door before they would give it to the missus at home.. GAH.

Ok lessons learned when ordering from BH..
UPS Expidited is more expensive at first..
UPS Expidited is quicker..
UPS flips the bird at PaulMartin for ya..

Don't use Postal Services..

In all, I still saved a few coins buying online than buying localy but waited longer than I thought I would.

Now to get home after work and see how well this works =)

Cheers
