Well, I finally got my hands on the S2, and the camera is much bulkier than I thought. With a 24-70 lens, the S2 is heavier and more award than I expected. And more expensive too. I however, is reserving final judgement until the E-1 arrives here.
I never owned a E-10/20, but I did like the body. Olympus design is probably the best yet.
And with the 14-54, the E-1 is amazingly light. And weather sealing is a definite plus here.
Fuji S2:
++image quality
+lens choices (yet none that fits as a general purpose)
-battery system
-body (weather sealing, important to me)
-backward combatbly (Huh? I can hear you say, but I have to choose carefully what lenses I buy, not all Nikkors are made equal)
Olympus E-1:
+image quality
+construction (for hiking)
+lightness (for hiking)
+1 lens for decent WA/TP (saves money for starter)
+the most recent system
-the most recent system
-few lens choices (Not that I care, only a amateur with limited budget)
-no flash (not so worrying, I dislike flash, or any "unnatural" light source)
+and last but not least, I totally agree with Olympus philsophy (even though it is part marketing): Digital changes everything, let's start from scratch. Canon leapfrogged Nikon 18 years ago, with the introducion of the EOS, and look where they are now.

Who are selling the E-1 kit (E-1 + 14-54mm). Isn't it supposedly to
be cheaper than buying the E-1 and 14-54 in a seperate packages?
The E-1 and the 14-54 are priced very similar everywhere
(1799+499). I have given up on the S2, sadly. The 14-54 blows every
lens away regarding range, quality, brightness and price.

Jon;
Seems u and I are/were considering the same 2 cameras - E-1 or S-2.
Were there other reasons for giving up on the Fuji besides the
Zuiko digital lenses?
George
PS: Be careful about seemingly bargain pricing. Not all stores are
honest, eh?
