I'm sure there is a good picture in here somewhere. Haven't yet found it though. Tried grayscale conversion, not quite right; all kinds of cropping, ditto; mythical lighting, ditto; duotone, ditto. BillM's antique engraving is next but I'm becoming pessimistic. I have a feeling the good piture maybe a combination of the above.

Just like the bogus ebay listings, for the lucky winner I'll provide you with a link to a free copy of an insta sketch action, list price 20 bucks!!!!

Seems to me that the original image is a bit of a problem. The subject is too obscured by the weeds. I think that takes so much from the image that it is hard to make it look really good. She seems lost in the weeds.

I think you're right, she is lost in the weeds, that's why I thought cropping might move the emphasis a bit. I like the plants in the foreground but they do tend to detract from the subject. Also, I was hoping for a more dated, olde worlde antique look rather than a sketch look. I was hoping to keep a photo look to it.

That said, what did you do Feivel? I like what you did, just not sure it's appropriate for this particular photo.

Haven't been here in a while! Thought I'd pull out my brushes for this one :)

I cropped it just a bit and used the technique below to try and bring attention to her and away from the plants/wall detail, etc...

Here's a sepia toned version:

1 - Converted to b+w
2 - Added a sepia tone

3 - Opened a new layer on top, and filled it with white. Then added a layer mask, and using a scatter brush in varying shades of gray/black, brushed over the mask to reveal the image below (Trimoon's sketch technique).

This was fun and I hope you like it a little. It could be taken much further given time. Thanks for sharing the project. Lloyd

Really liked what you did. Leonard, what did you do?

Pam, yours was my favourite, I vaguely recall a thread about aging a photo, I think I'll get my origianl as far as you did and then see if I can age it. Really captured the look that I was going for.

Thanks for your efforts everybody, I have been stymied on it for 4 months!!!!

This gets better, what did you do?

The cropping in particular really helped the image. I think I was a little too attacahed to the vegetation int he foreground.

Hi Isca. I too was bothered by taking some of the vegetation out but I wanted the young lady to be the focus of our attention and then I cropped her to be in the third of frame to attract our eye as see looks to the left of the frame. I de-saturated some of the strong greens of the vegetation and lowered some yellow to give it a subdued color look and added some USM. BTW, I must of cropped it 10 time before I settled on this last one. The frame it a bit too thick for my taste. I think a smaller black frame would be better. Regards!

If you have PS, you might want to try this action set, "Very Vintage". I haven't run it yet, but it seems to have several variables you can control:
