300D color accuracy?

Are the colors of the 300D with the kit lens any more accurate than those of G5 or 717?

I cancelled my order of the 717 because of various reasons including the bad green neon colors it produces.

Now I have 2 options, buy a G5 for 680 euros or 300d kit for 1100 euros and I am wondering if I get any more accurate colors for the extra 420 euros or would I need more extra lenses?

I would be very thankful if somebody can give me some advice on this.

The 717 is not at all to compare with the 707. It´s another world. I really would call it very natural and I am very interested in natural colors. I hate the 707 colors. I doubt the 300D has better colors despite you will get tons of such replies in a canon forum. I am now a 300D user but have not yet enough experience with the canon. But what I see is that most users use parameter 1 (default setting of the 300D, different to 10D default setting) - this parameter imitates the 707 (yes F707) very well. ;-)

Sometimes (seldom) there is a white balance problem with the F717 indoors, likely user´s mistake, but this can create interesting and still natually looking moods anyway, it´s probably the same with the 300 which has "average auto white balance".

Hi Felix65

I think they are quite accurate if you use the Parameter 2 setting, which doesn't set any in-camera saturation or contrast. The Parameter 1 setting is a bit overblown. It will produce punchy images that the average person will pick over the more natural one taken with the P2 setting, but they are not a good representation of the real thing.

I disagree with innsonic on 717 colors. First the 717 has no color saturation parameters, and I don´t like the examples I have seen on the Sony thread.

I noticed that G5 have controls on saturation, contrast and sharpness while 300D has also controls on color tone as well.

What I want is the sensor to capture as much of the colors that the human eye can and that the colors are not inaccurate. i.e. I want the pictures to reflect the reality as much as possible.

The question is simply, will the G5 do the job as well as the 300D given the cameras' controls and their sensors?

I have both the 717 and the 300D and in the comparisons that I've made the 300D shines over the 717 in both color accuracy and lower noise (with the kit lens) straight out of the camera.

One big plus that the 300D offers that the 717 doesn't is the ability to work with RAW files. Don't discount the amazing latatitude that will give you in your picture manipulation compared to what you might have been use to doing with .jpg files. Working with RAW is true digital "lab" work that can give amazing results.

After nearly 2 months with the 300D my 717 has become my "second" camera.

Both G5 and 300D comes with RAW. You can set WB in your PC software later to get best color accuracy possible.

F717 doesn't support RAW format, but F828 is said to provide that function.

707 has neon greens problem
G5 has best color accuracy IMHO.
300D in my opinion has blue sky problem (gray cast, sometimes wash-out)
