Considered the unfortunate circumstances in which I found myself at the time of that picture, I think this portrait came out pretty well (kinda unexpected too), and since I normally don't take portrait photographs, well that's the only decent one, too.

Little background info about the circumstances of the shot: this shot was taken in a coach on the trip back from St.Gallen organised by our school within the inter-cantonal classes exchange project. I had to sneak between two seats in order to take that pic of my friend, because if I just stood up and asked her "hey, may I take a pic of you" I wouldn't have stood the slightest chance. I cannot say it didn't work though; she didn't even notice me and did not know about the picture until I let her see it on a print a couple of days ago, so... yay me ! ;) Of course I would have liked it a bit more frontal, but as I said, between two seats there's no much freedom of action... just gotta love that zoom though !

Now, little info about the shot itself: ISO 160, F/3.2, 1/100s. Post: masked out background and lightened the head only, USM (my fault - overdid it) and applied Dave Jaseck "Glamour" action. I should have cropped it someway too, but eww I still have no idea how.

Here the non-glamour picture: http://membres.lycos.fr/hoovercorr/personal/Cipo-retouch-res.jpg

And here the original (resized): http://membres.lycos.fr/hoovercorr/personal/Cipo-orig-res.jpg

I hope my post improved the pic instead of making it worse, and I hope this won't be considered as "cheating"; in fact, given the conditions I had at the time, I think I couldn't ask the camera anything more than what it did effectively provide - and I'm happy it wasn't blurred or spoiled in any other ways.

you did a very good job with the post processing.. now I feel like going through my directories and looking for underexposed images like that.. i would have assumed that would be grainy when corrected whatever I do.

the photo is very nice too.. very natural.
good work

PIC: Existing early evening light only -- no flash. Taken during a baseball game (thus the fence behind him. He was in the dugout and the sun was streaking through and I popped this one off when he turned around.

POST: Just some sharpening (of course) on this one...

Interesting, I was going to write in that it looks a little green, and perhaps a bit too yellow as well. Could be from the way the flash bounced.

I like the intrigue provided by how similar they are, yet so different in how they look here. Very nice.

Good yob taking a relatively dark pic and making it work through the application of the lightening you did manually and then the addition of the 'glamour' action. Well done. She is looking so sideways from the cam that I wish she was at the far left of frame so that I could see what she's looking at (landscape rather than protrait is what i am saying, I guess).

Don't really think it's my best portrait, but something a little
bit more unusual (or arty, if you prefer ;) thanks to fast-moving
camera and slow synchro flash
I love how you got the slow synchro to ork so much on your behalf ( not something planned, but something found!). That's really great.
(it's called "Essence of Concentration". sorry ;)
Ha! Too late... :)

Hi Fotonut,
Great idea!

Don't know if this really counts as a 'portrait' but it is one of my favourites of a person - and it's my absolute favourite of a person, a fluffy lion and a leopard wearing sunglasses...

Taken in shade on a bright sunny day. Camera is an S304 (3800). 1/250, F2.8. As far as I can remember all I did to the pic was convert to greyscale, contrast and USM. Not terribly interesting or instructive, but there you go... :-)

Just started experimenting with portraits this past summer. This was one of my first.

I was on a camping trip with some friends and happened to sneak this shot.

1/50s f/2.8 at 46.8mm iso160

Just a bit of auto color for this shot.

Here's my favorite (not because I am the subject). I took this with bounce flash, tripod and timer and processed in PS to combine the two images. I don't have the exif, as I am not at my own computer, but it was around 1/200s shutter priority, custom wb, etc. It was hard to get the proper composition being in front of the camera, there was always something cut off, I settled for this one being the most centered.
