Go to COSTCO folks !!! Now !!!

I bought these cheapo $10 on sale frames and put some of my 18x12s up. I'm very immpressed. May have to give them away as presents !

And print some 8x12's from your camera. Be it 10D/D60/D30. We have
even done a few from Powershot A70 (3mp). Ofcourse they need a
little bit of upsampling in PS but the prints quality is incredible
! But the most incredible is their price - $0.19 for 4x6 and $1.99
for 8x12 !!!

Yes, I know this thread has been here yesterday but I just had to
share my good experience. I haven't even gotten the profiles for
their printer yet - just shot my images in sRGB and processed them
with sRGB in Photoshop and the colors came out very very good for
an unprofiled printing.

I'm a happy camper now. Don't need on line printing services
anymore. The price is unmatched, no charge for shipping and I have
them in a few hours ! is that a good deal or what ?

Sam's Club charges the same $1.99 for 8 x 10s or 10 x 12s.
One Sam's Club here charges $1.99 but the other charges $2.99. When I asked about the difference in price between stores, they told me that the $1.99 price is at a store in close proximity to Costco. Indeed the $1.99 price is at a Sam's very close to a Costco, which also has the $1.99 price.

I just tried Costco printing as well this past week. Very amazing! I use the Costco in Mountain View, CA. as well and have been very happy with the results. You need to make sure to download the printer profiles from http://www.drycreekphoto.com and follow their instructions (resolution = 320dpi, etc..,).

I do have to boost the levels and saturation a bit in Photoshop or they will come out a bit dull. Yesterday I printed some pictures using the lustre paper and I think I prefer that over the glossy paper.

I just took 33 photos, tweaked them a little in PS, downloaded to a CD, and took them to Costco. Presto! Incredibly sharp and gorgous color.

I also cropped one of my favorites, converted 1 to BW, and printed 12x18 of each. Beautiful, sharp as a razor, with colors exactly as they were on my monitor. Total bill, including tax, $12.99

I have found that the Sam's processing is almost identical to the processing I use at home on my 2200, with the exception that I bump the contrast just a bit more. My batch action (that I've previously published) includes a contrast +10 for home printing, but I go to +15 for Sam's. This is all for 4x6 "snapshots for albums" printing, when I have a whole bunch of shots, like on a vacation for an album. I have not tried the 8x10 or 8x12 yet at Sam's.

I've been very, very happy with Sam's for this use, especially at 19 cents each.

I have used the Frontier service at Sam's Club with success. Do
you do much tweaking except for cropping or not? I have done all
of my processing and told them to apply no corrections. Do you do
it that way or let them brighten, contrast, etc?

Ive tried calling sams club and also walmart, neither of them say they do prints bigger than 8x10, and sadly they dont offer glossy prints either.

Here in columbus we have Cord Camera however they want $19.99 or something similar to Ofoto and the others for larger prints. At least they are glossy i tihnk. Ofoto says they dont do glossy bigger than 8x10

There is a Costco in cleveland, which is about a 2.5 hour drive, I guess thats the only option

Is there a password or something you can say at walmart for them to get out the larger paper. I cant understand why some Sams Clubs would do it and others wouldnt, you would expect the same machine

Just go online to Costco.com, and check out "photo services"

I don't think they have available USB ports to plug one of those in. The software you use to place the order has a specific list of buttons to press for each of the media card formats, and there wasn't one for "random thing plugged into USB".

On the plus side, if you need a CF card, Costco has those too for purchase :P

I looked on the costco.com site and under photo services all that would come up was the Kodak PIcture center. Their prices were $16.99 for a 16x20 print, although at least it was glossy.

Is there something I am missing ? Or do you have to be logged in and a member of costco to access the part of the site where you can order the cheaper 12x18 $2.99 prints ?

some have the older machines that simply won't do 18x12 or even the older frontier machines.

Best bet is to call around and see which costco has what.

They turned out nicely. I'm still getting the hang of sharpening, so some of my 12x18s were over-done. The colour was verynice, matched what I previewed on-screen with Photoshop and the .icc profile quite well.

My only complaint is the speed of the machine used to place the orders. If you go, be prepared to wait 5+ minutes for it to load the preview of a 30MB TIFF file :) Next time I think I'll try JPEG instead and see if there is any visible quality difference. They preview much faster!

Which Costco, Neil? I'm planning to try it out down at the Issaquah location: they've got a Frontier 390 according to http://www.drycreekphoto.com/

As for the sharpening: I broke down and bought PhotoKit Sharpener and have gotten the hang of it. I printed some shots today on my i9100 and even at 5x7 I could see a slight improvement over letting QImage do the sharpening.

I'm also doing stair interpolation with PS Side Click Pro ( http://www.ksscinc.com/PSSC%20cleaner_more_detailed_stair_inte.htm )

and I'm getting better results than QImage's vector interpolation (though it's close).

for my experience w my local costco (Mountain View, CA) has been
disappointing, dark and dull colors, i had to return them
all...costco kodak onliine is another story, it costs a little
more but the results are nothing but splendid...so i guess not all
costco are equal, i believe my local uses noritsu machines instead
of fuji which i prefer
I had the same problem with the Sams in Atlanta. The prints were nothing short of atrociously terrible!! I could add a couple more adjectives there.

I have now started getting them printed in India. The quality is quite good, but I'm still struggling for consistency in colour management. They have no idea what ICC profiles are :-(. But if I let them do their touch ups, the prints look very good. Also, the prices are great. 24 cents for 5x7 and 55 cents for 8x12.

The best and most consistent prints I have had are from Wolf Camera in Atlanta. But even there, not all Wolfs are created equal.

I'll try another Sams next time.

I have had some great results at Costco... but sometimes they add a bit too much blue.. just look at the pic and tell them that it looks weird and they will give you another printout .. if you complain enough (which I have) and tell them you have to drive for 30 min to get there they might end up giving you the whole lot for free...

Overall a good experience but I may end up getting a Epson 2200 because I want stuff now now now and I feel the colors are better and the photos seem more detailed from it.

I downloaded the Dry Creek profiles for my local Costco and then followed their instructions closely for associating a profile with my images using PShop. When I pull up the final JPG images I plan to bring in to Costco for printing into PShop, they appear super-saturated (greens in particular) -- quite different from the image that I was working with and then saved.

Haven't had much experience with profiles, so forgive me if this is a pretty dumb question, but was wondering whether this seems fairly normal? Or, should I expect my results off the printer to look a lot more like the image I started with?

Thx,
Jerry
