i owned a 3800 camera, bought it 3mths ago...doesnt meet my expectations, kinda gonna chuck it in the shelf now. Was thinking to invest on a 3800 like camera..which im gonna give S5000 a thought. But overheard the image quality isnt as good. How about MInolta Z1? pretty interesting camera, which has a more or like functions as the S5000? anyone reckon?

Did they fix the slowness of the 850 in the 945? And the screen blanking for long periods when taking a picture, that really bugged me. No manual control. The evf in the 850 always stayed on when using the LCD for some reason. There were some more things about the 850 that wasn't too great, would have to look back on my posts about it from last Nov or so to find the rest.
You might want to consider a new HP 945 camera.
You can find a nice preview on the Photo.net:

I posted here three original, unaltered images from the production
HP 945 digital camera:

Those might me just first production samples available on the Web.
They are even better than I expected.. HP 945 appears as a very
serious alternative at the long zoom market.

I'll be going to BestBuy to check out the 5000. I already own the Z1, so I'll be able to compare them somewhat (not sure if they'd let me pull out my Z1 and compare them or not). I'll post what I find. Sounds like they might be very comparable in speed etc. Minus the FPS. Z1 has the precapture mode also, but allows you to continuously hold down the shutter and not for just a set amount of frames. I'll wait and put more comparison stuff in another post after handling the 5000.
