Hello friends,

I got recently many STFer comments about the (lack of) sharpness in my photos. Today I made a test, and found to my horror that my gallery provider compresses my files to about 30KB, and blows up my photo physical size by, maybe, 10% or more.

To defend the provider I must add that he replied to my email saying that he's looking at this issue. I hope he will soon find a satisfactory solution.

So I must apologize to all of you for posting recently so many unsharp photos.

Have an excellent day, and sorry again, Yehuda

That way, you get to control every aspect of everything you post!

It is quite easy to set up and maintain, and it costs less than you might imagine...

PBase does something very similar, and it's why I won't become a registered user there. Some of my photos were being compressed at a ratio of something like 10:1 (200K down to 20K)! Hopefully your provider can get things straightened out for you.

James

Thank you, MC, but currently I'm not interested in owning a permanent website. Maybe later at some time.

Take care and have a nice day, Yehuda

James,
When this happens I'll applaud and let all of you know about it.

Thanks for commenting, Yehuda

you are getting what you pay for. i suppose they do that to
control costs.
anyhow, try http://www.smugmug.com , you can get an account there
for as little as $30 USD per year, and it is unlimited storage of
photos. they don't do anything whatsoever to compromise the
integrity of your photos.
Andy,

I'm looking at some other possible solutions. Finally I'm sure that I'll come up with something, if my currect provider can solve that issue.
good luck whichever way you go, and keep the excellent portraiture
coming, yehuda!
I'm afraid that there will be some slow down...

Thank you, Andy, and have a nice day,

You should not have to apologize for your gallery providers error. Beside I have seen alot of your photos and have learned alot from watching you and others on this forum. Most of us here would agree that since your photos do not have a sharpness issue, that the recent ones would be the result of your provider doing something in error..

Keep up the good work Yehuda and God Bless

Shalom, Yehuda:

I knew there had to be something wrong. I noticed the lack of sharpness as well in otherwise very nice pictures. It was highly uncharacteristic of your photos, and I suspected that something else was at fault.

I'm glad you identified the problem. I hope you'll consider reposting your recent photos once the problem has been fixed.

Florindo,

All my photos are printed. I could (of course) see no sharpness problems with the printed photos, so I deduced that what I get on the screen is pretty good. I'm glad that finally I managed to see the problem, and trace its source.

Here's one of them (I'm using now a new host):

Your photos don't have a physical size. Do you mean the pixel dimensions of the smaller images on the index page?

In any case, we've at least not seen any pix from you where the subject isn't sharp.

Doug,

The hosted image shows bigger on the screen than my original photo, as if resized.
In any case, we've at least not seen any pix from you where the

Very kind from you to say that, but comparing the original with the posted photo shows a considerable difference in sharpness.

Thanks and have an excellent day,

Yehuda

I'm sorry to hear that about Pbase, where I am a registered user. Do you mean that when you click on "original" (meaning original size), that the actual compression ratio of the picture is not the same as the compression ratio of the original? If so, that is disappointing, and since the Exif information is embedded and does not reflect this, a little deceptive. I would have expected "original" to mean original in every regard, pixel count and compression.

Are you quite sure about this?
