i'm going crazy ...

well this misn't the most intresting post...i know
but the reason i post it is ...well i dont know

i'v worked for a month to save enough money to buy a 717...tht was a month ago..
i still don't have it ...reason...F828
now i'm stilll shooting point an shoot with my olympus

and everytime i take pictures ...its like "if i only had the 717 this picture would be so much beter"
well ...it drives me nuts!!!

i'll probably wait untill the release of the828 in belgium...but 3 months seem
sooooo long...

i have the money...the knowledge...and an old 2MP point and shoot...i have some great pictures here...but they could have been so much better

well all i can do now is ...reading the forum
in this 3 months i'm here...i getting to know the people here
and all i can say is ...this is probably the best forum i'v ever seen!!
all kinds of people here

its hard to say who's pics I lkike the most ...but Yehuda is one of my ALL TIME favourites... just to let you know

i wasnt going to shoot portret but your pictures are so amazing...i will try portets

I just got back from a short vacation to Alaska. The entire time I was shooting with a 717 I was thinking how much better the pics could be if I only had a 828.
Prediction, my craziness end with the 828...for at least a few months, anyway.

1 MP more ;-)) ( DSC-P 72 ). You are NOT alone in described case so WELCOME TO THE CLUB ! Fi i can advice you... just be patient and wait for 828. NO NERVOUS MOVES UNTIL THAN ;-))

A year ago I was also waiting for the latest and greatest, I even considered waiting another year... then somebody told me that my daughter will only have her 4th birthday once.

I didn´t miss it, I have some beautifull pictures of her being 3 years and her 4th birthday.

So the 828 is better than my 717.. I won´t be bothered until the 11x11 comes along (or whatever they will call it). Right now my focus is on capturing precious moments and trying to catch the light...

The only people who really enjoy your eagerness for the latest and greatest are the marketing people from Sony / Canon etc. I bet these guys are really having fun reading all those posts of people who are defending their product emotionally against that of the competition. I can imagine the $ signs in their eyes...

Here's what you do. You team up someone who wants the very lastest so bad that they can't afford anything -- with someone who is willing to have the next best thing (the second to latest model). Then, eveytime a new model comes out you buy it, and the team member buys the previous model from you.

Of course, this only works if he is willing to pay the original amount for the slightly used camera, so you only have to pay the difference. This would be too expensive for the number two person, so he needs to team up and a number three person. It's like a chain letter. When a new one comes out everyone shifts one position.

The alternative: just jump in somewhere.

I have the 717 and even though the 828 will be better I'm happy with what I got and will wait till it's old and outdated to replace. I don't have the money to replace things every single year.

Hi Toon,

Welcome to STF, it is a very nice place to spend some time on the Internet.

Get the 717 now. If it only took you a month to save for the 717, then save a fraction of that a month, just in case the 828 is all it's cracked up to be. But it's three months until it's released - better hope you get your order in early. Realistically, you're looking at 4-5 before you could get your hands on one.

You can get the 717 for a great price right now. Go for it. Learn it. If you really determine that you're in this for the long haul, then pick up an 828 in February (so around then), which will likely be available for less than the $1,200 price.

Shoot well now, not in 4 months.

and there are so many (maybe even more) reasons to wait and buy the 828.

and it didn't took me a month to save the money...it took me a month OF HARD WORK to save the money...thats why i wanne spend it on the best camera...

Personally, I don't think a person who thinks the the 828 is "enough camera" for their current involvement in photography needs to worry about much about the next model....and should not delay purchase of a digital camera model from Sony newer than the 828 to find out what the "next model" will offer.

I think that the improvements that the 828 has over all other current Sony models are and will be GREATER, realistically, than any improvements that the "next Sony non-dslr" will boast.

Why?

8MP surely allows enough detail and resolution for any prints up to 8x11 (I don't do prints..but I hear this alot).
8MP is definately enough for MOST web-based uses for any camera.
Is 12MP going to be that much better for most "non-pro" applications?

Certainly not...if you can forgo having the "latest thing" then 8mp should do you well...again..for MOST applications...

Certainly, storage capacity will always increase...but even if the 828 isn't compatable with the 12 gig microdrive, or the 15 GB MS MEGA PRO...the size the pics from the 828 won't ever increase! At the writing of this posting...you can put FIVE GIGS of memory in your 828! DOH!
