F828: It is official Yeah!

It really doesn't matter now:

http://www.chip.de/news/c_news_10829552.html
None of the other sites have posted, so I think we can reasonably
assume that digitalkamera was a little bit over-eager. This is
somewhat understandable, although I'm sure the other webmasters are
just a little bit annoyed about it. I would be, too.
Yup, it seems so.

As happy i am over the available info i am fearing that they broke
a still existing NDA or it was a fault in their database :)

Andreas

Todd - I'm dying here ;) can you pleeeeease send me the page?
When I use the link - all I get is a page that says (translated):

the side requested by you is missing on digitalkamera.de. Either
it was renamed, shifted or deleted or the way of writing is not not
correct. Please over our full text search or from the starting
side News and information go you out on the search for the
information looked for by you.

Has the page been removed or?

I remember that this happened not too long ago, where someone posted before the NDA had expired and then after that happened, other sites started posting as well. Who knows what will happen now. I can hardly wait for some test shots, but based on the RGBe images we've seen already, I really liked them.

(using online translator):

Munich (ben)? Sony shows at the end of of August on the international radio exhibition (IFA) in Berlin a new top model in things digital cameras. The Cyber SHOT Dsc-f828 is equipped with the again developed super HAD CCD with 8 MPixel dissolution, which catches the pictures owing to its fourth color filter as RGBE files. In the objective of the type Vario Sonnar of Carl Zeiss with its 7fold optical and the 14fachen digital zoom shot are arranged twelve lenses (three of it aspaerisch) in nine groups. By the T*-remuneration the light is to almost hit the CCD chip without disturbing reflections. The focal length from 28 to 200 millimeters (compared with small picture) as well as a macro range up to two centimeters are to be sufficient for most work areas. Ambitionierte photographers will be pleased about the separate focus and zoom shot rings. Autofocus measurement optionally by means of Joystick with "flexible Spot" Autofokus has the photographer beyond that by mini Joystick the possibility of putting the range finding of the autofocus on a freely selectable zone. Owing to the high luminous intensity from F2.0 to F2.8 photographs are possible also in difficult lighting conditions. Economical Sprinter distinguishing is itself the Dsc-f828 also by its speed: Owing to "the Imaging" processor the camera is material in less than one second ready to be launched. In addition it can note MPEG films with 640 x of 480 pixels with genuine 30 pictures per second. Besides the Dsc-f828 offers a series picture option with three pictures per second (maximally sieve in consequence). The camera is being sufficient SAM in the current consumption: A standard Akkuladung is to be sufficient for up to 480 pictures. First Sony Digicam with CompactFlash Slot beside a Slot for a MEMORY stick gives it a further for CompactFlash maps of the types to I, II and for Microdrives. The camera alternatively stores the pictures as JPEG, tiff or RAW. With the interface USB 2,0 pictures can be transferred fast to the PC. The PictBridge function permits photo pressures also without detour over the computer. To the scope of supply belong the suitable sun visor, a left-ion-Akku together with battery charger, various cables as well as software.

Autofokus-Messung optional mittels Joystick

Yeah. Especially when the Minolta still has some advantages:

1) Top speed of 1/16000s to the 828's 1/3200. Sometimes in very bright sunlight and at max aperture for shallow depth of field, you need really fast shutter speed, although not necessary up to 1/16000. Don't forget too, high-sync speed with the 3600, 5600 etc.

2) Flex focus which allows focusing on any point on the screen. Very useful for tripod work when you can't aim and refocus.

3) Wireless flash capabilities for easy, convenient, off-centre balanced fill flash.

4) Tiltable LCD and EVF. Great for macro. The Sony has swivel lens, yup, but you can't tilt it all the way 90 degrees down, no?

5) Bracketing not just of exposures, but also colour, saturation, etc.

6) Anti-Shake

7) Less intimidating look, makes it easier for candids with people at ease.

And so on. Of course the Sony has its advantages too especially that lovely carl zeiss T* lens, but not enough to make the A1 DOA yet!
That kind of makes that one DOA, don't it? :-(

It's almost kinda sad to think about. Those guys were starting to
get pretty excited.
DOA at the Sony forum, perhaps. Still, I must admit, it's nice to
see Sony finally beginning to catch up to Minolta. ;-) However,
it's almost kinda sad to think about, that the heavy Sony with its
clumsy shape, doesn't have some kind of IS. That kind of makes
that one DOA, don't it? :-( You guys were starting to get pretty
excited.

I saved it to a PDF, but...what's the legality in sharing it?

Maybe if no one else managed to save it, I'll post it in the morning.

It will be great to record at 30fps in high res - but this is not mini-DV it is more highly compressed MPeg so will not be handycam quality.

Handycams (I have one) are also designed differently and cope with varying exposure during the clip better than still cameras with video modes.

Will be very handy though for those who only want the occasional video clip!

Nice find, Giles.

Is that a display panel underneath her opposable? I still think the flash area's a bit unsightly. Maybe next time they can get Ferrari to design the body rather than Skoda.
