Camera store in NY. Need advise.

I have a friend who is returning from New York in only three days. Can anyone recommend a decent camera shop where he can buy a Canon G3 and a 420ex? I reckon I can expect the prices to be higher than the web shops. Can anyone give a clue on how much?

I bought aThe G3 from Beach Camera over the net. I paid $459 plus shipping. Total I paid $472. A friend of mine was visiting New York and asked me where I bought My G3. He went to Beach Camera, asked how much for it, and if the NET price is available when purchasing there. The sales person said sure...He paid $486 (I think, can't remember the exact amount). I'd go to Beach Camera ask about the NET price and l think you'll get it.

A very quality store that you can trust for brand new and no gray market is B&H not the cheapest but one you don't have to stay awake at night worring if they will give you a shafting.

I live in NY and the most reputable (and fantastic) store is B & H Photo, located at West 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue. Their prices are also very competative and they have EVERYTHING. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home

No. NJ is a different state although right next to NY. IIRC, Beach Camera is located w/in a 20-min drive from Manhattan, but if you're friend is just visiting NYC, then it's probably not a viable option.

I think the suggestion of B&H is probably the best bet. Their web price is only $510 right now, and there should be absolutely no problem getting that price at the retail store. They're located on the west side of midtown Manhattan and should be easy enough to find. Make sure your friend knows that they're closed on Saturdays and also close early (2pm) on Fridays since he/she only has this week to shop for you.

Photo, located at West 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue. Their prices
are also very competative and they have EVERYTHING.

17th Street Photo, located in the middle of Manhanttan, http://www.17photo.com , G3 is $510, 420EX is $175 (USA model).

Admorama, located in Manhanttan, http://www.adorama.com , G3 is $510, 420EX is $160 (grey market), $175 (USA model).

Remember since your friend is buying locally, he will have to pay 8% NY state sales tax.

You're from Norway.. Might as well go with Grey Market...

B&H and Adorama are good source for grey market.

Stick with 17th Street Photo or Adorama. Their prices are great, their reputation range from very good to great, and you don't have to worry that you have purchased a used/customer returned camera as other "reputatble" camera shop sell.
