How do you know if you have a USB 2.0 capable port on your computer? Thanks.

This may not work for all computers, but if you go into the BIOS setup, somewhere in there will be an entry for the USB.

If you have USB 2.0, it will give you an option of selecting compatability to USB 1.1, USB 2.0 or both.

Obviously if it says anything about USB 2.0, then you have it. If it does not, then my guess is that you do not.

Another way you might be able to check is with windoze Device Manager. Look under the USB section and see if there are any references to USB 2.

I think Leo on The Screen Savers said that the logo design is different. I will have to look as I have one of each at work. I'd rather have 1394 AKA Firewire instead. Firewire is static and USB uses a buffer, that's why you won't see Digital Video Cameras flocking to USB 2.

In Microsoft Windows go to device drivers Universal Serial Bus under control panel > systems and see what is listed.

If it says it is a 2.0 driver than you have a 2.0 device. If it fails to say it you probably do not.

By the way all laptops I have seen so far are 1.1 not 2.0.

And if you do not have it the upgrade is cheap and well worth it.

R.T.F.M.

That stands for Read The "Friendly" Manual. And if you buy a USB 2 device and plug it into your USB 1 port, it will still work but only at USB 1 speeds.

Yeah I tired that earlier looking to see if I saw anything about 2.0 in there and didn't. How long has 2.0 been around anyways? That might help me determine it too. And you mention it is cheap to upgrade to it. How do you go about doing that? Thank you.

Nevermind, Im an idiot. I would just get a USB 2.0 PCI card right? I saw some for about $20.
