What do you want to adjust? Are you wanting to increase the size of what you selected, or to increase the size of the lasso? The sensitivity adjustments for the tool are in the options bar at the top. You do have to click the tool if it looks like it is going out of the bounds where you want it to go so that it keeps its course, then you sometimes click once too often and it seeks its starting point. Is that what you are referring to?

there is a magic wand and a magnetic lasso
you might be mixing them up

the magnetic lasso works by: you dragging your mouse along an edge of an object, if you are near the edge the lasso will snap right to the edge, depending on how close you are to the edge, how much contrast there is between the two sides of the edge, and how you set up the sensitivity for the lasso up above

when you complete a full excursion around the object you double click to complete the selection of the object.

An example is

as you can see, i need to make sure the lasso sticks to the car coachlines and not mid-air!!!

Have you read the on-line help file? Just search for "magnetic lasso" and all of its secrets will be revealed...

the magnetic lasso has it's limitations
there is 0 contrast between the tire and the shadow so the lasso sees no edge

you can try playing with the settings of the lasso on top like decreasing the distance or increasing the sensitivity, but try this first:

when you first get to the area where the contrast decreases at the tire, click every few millimeters as you go around the tire, the lasso will follow your clicks instead of the edge

also another very common thing you need to do when using the lasso

whenever the lasso jumps to somewhere you dont want it, move the pointer back to where it was before it took that leap, and hit delete as many times as necessary to erase one point at a time that the lasso has layed down

Funny you should mention this Chuck - I had a similar situation just last night and after the entire object was selected, I wanted to move/adjust my selection. I couldn't figure it out and so I went to the ps7 help file. No luck. Can this be done or do I have to make it perfect the first go around?

to add to the selection hold the shift key while using any tool to select what you wish to add

to subtract from the selection, hold the ctrl key (or is it alt)while using any tool to to select what you wish to subtract

to move the whole selection, use the move tool (you might have to hold down a key so just the marching ants move, not the whole selected part of the picture, im not at home and dont recall exactly how. once you check the help files for this or someone else answers, when you do move the whole selection you can use the arrow keypad to nudge it a pixel at a time)
use the select menu to expand, contract or feather the whole selection

also very helpful and easy in modifying a selection

hit q key, then you can paint in black and white like a layer mask to refine the selection
hit the q key again and the new improved marching ants will return

feivel

Which tool is active affects the action taken on the selection:

When you select using a selection tool you can move the selection via the arrow keys or click-dragging in the middle of the marching ant selection indicator.

But if you switch to the move tool, you'll cut and move the image selected by the marching ants if you click and drag. Holding down alt (opt on Mac) while you click and drag will copy the selected area.

You can add and subtract to selections various ways, depending on the selection toll you are using. The box icons on the top of the tool bar denote addtion, subtraction, contiguous areas, etc. and there are also keystroke controls. Probably the easiest way to correct a selection is QuickMask, which you toggle on and off by pressing the "q" key.

Well, maybe your name had some special character which cannot be rendered properly, or may be a 'soft-space' - Alt+255. IF I am correct, my name wont come on this message - if Im wrong, you would know, ofcourse.

Actually, Id prefer that the script that parses names is enhanced not to accept this trick. Its rather irritating to see 'empty posters' .
(PS: I was the original poster in the prev, mail)
