Replacement of S400?

I wasn't thinking of a 5MP version, 4MP is enough. I was hoping for a little more manual controls, even if they are pre-programmed, like a "sports" mode...
Are there any rumors for a replacement of S400? I think it is going
to appear in September/October or am I wrong?
I doubt they'd replace a model that just came out less than year ago.

They might offer a 5MP version, but the purple fringing is bad
enough on the S400 already so I think they'd need to update the
lens design.

As people have noted here, the camera seems to have only two different apertures. Therefore, this gives very little flexibility. If it's bright enough to use the smaller aperture, then you're bumping up against max shutter speeds for the larger one.

If Canon wanted to add more modes, they would probably need to change the camera mechanically to include a more traditional aperture mechanism. This begs the question of why they didn't include this in the first place. It's a peculiar design, so I would assume that there must have been some advantage to it in terms of space savings.

I do agree that it would be nice to have a little more control over the camera.

The S400 only became readily available in stores in April of this year and you are asking if it will be replaced by October?? Not likely. The priority for the S400 was size and compromises were made to make it such a small camera. If you are not happy with it's feature set then go with a larger but more capable design like the S45/50, A70 or even G3/5.
