Does anyone think it is possble to get the 10D to do ISO 6400 though a firmware upgrade or would it require an actual hardware change? Would anyone use it if it was compareable to the D100 6400

Why would you need 6400 ISO if I may ask?
The amount of distortion I see at 1600 makes me not use it and 6400 would give you a real, real problem with distortion if you ask me.

Why not try shooting RAW at 1600, dial in an EV of -2....and then put a +2 exposure compensation in the Raw conversion.....then you essentially have ISO 6400....
I can push the D60 to ISO 6000 using this method.

Ok, indoor sports is not my kind of thing, I won't give you any advice on that as I just don't know anything about that. 
Concerts: That's where DavidP is good at, hopefully I'll be abled to get you some advice too. If you give us some more info
Clubs; you mean clubs as in where there is a group (or a single) performer? Or do you mena clubs as the place where you go out to dance onto the vynils of the DJ? Quite a difference actually.

Just shoot ISO 3200 and underexpose 1 stop. Then when you convert your pictures just adjust the picture up 1 stop. You will get lots of noise but you will have a picture.......did I mention lots of noise.

The thread is more about whether ISO 6400 can be achived as a software upgrade. I only mentioned the situations I find hi ISO useful because someone asked. I was looking at a comparison of 10D and D100 at Various ISO values and since the 10D is cleaner at 3200 then it could probably do as good or better than the D100 at 6400.

I can't even start to imagine how 6400 ISO must look like. I find 800 to be the very edge of what I think is feasable. But on the other hand, it saves you quite some stops right?they use it in such a terrible way

If 10D can offer ISO 6400 and keep the noise at the current ISO1600 level, it will be a big welcome for thoese who want to shot in low light condition but without f2.8L lens.
I shot this one with ISO 1600, 135mm@1/15s, thru window, handheld in the Zoo.

Sometimes when you gotta get the shots, you just gotta get the shots.
I did experiments year before with my D30 at a very poorly lit night game where I pushed ISO 1600 by two full stops to ISO 6400. Results after post processing and noise compensation were comparable with pushing film.

I used it shooting Indoor Hockey for my hometown local newspaper.
The results obtained where much better than T-Max 3200 pushed one stop that I used to use for that subject...
Oh! I forgot, I convert the results to B&W so I've got no chroma problems!
So I'm shure it will be much better with the 10D, just select 1600 and -2 EV.
Ah! and you need to use raw, it's mandatory, since jpg would increase the noise by tons and you need the 12bits to get details...
