Yes i have a lot of reading to do. Neck strap is already one. Any suggestions for keeping the lens scrath free? Can I put a filter of the lens?

Myself with just a little care like keeping one hand always on camera. have never had a problem with anything touching the lens. But many do install a lensmate. I just don't like a tube sticking out over the lens.

Good buy! The G3 is my first DC and my first 'serious' camera buy. However, love the thing and my wife is an official 'G3 Widow'.

In short - you won't be disappointed.

Regarding lens protection - I've just made my order to LensMate for an adapter, macro set, UV filter and polarizer. The UV is for protection when using the adapter, but in all honesty had never realised any necessity before coming on this great site.

Congrats! I am also a new G3 owner. I love it. Went golfing this afternoon and took some nice shots. I'm not an experienced photographer, so right now I mainly use the scene settings that work great for me now. I am interested in using other settings - such as Ap and Tv.

Check out the stitch Assist thing. Very cool. I've made several Panoramic shots already and it is very easy.

Have fun with your new cam. I just got the G3 about a month ago, still have a lot of practising to do (but that's half the fun).
A nice addition is a Lensmate:

They have adapters in 52mm and 58mm which will allow you to add filters and accessory lenses. Canon makes an adapter also, but it's only available in 58mm. The Lensmate web site has examples of how the adapters will affect the camera.
