I'm fairly new to digital retouching. I've had Elements now for two years but never really fully used it. When I got a new digital SLR I started using PS7.
I was practicing hand held panning with my new camera and shot this...

None of the images really stood out so I started playing with this one image and came up with this...

What do you think? Any suggestions on fixing the original washed out sky?

All I did was a little cropping, readjusted the horizontal line, and then applied a gradient blue to yellow layer mask, lowered the opacity, then erased the layer from the road and truck.

The images posted are fairly small files compared to the original, but I could repost if you need to look at something larger.

You did great I really like it..Washed out skys can be replaced with other skys..Just take some sky pics and insert them in..Getting rid of a washed out sky is easy with the magic wand..

I think the sky you redid is now perfect, natural, subtle, but moody

I cut the truck, pasted it to a new layer thaen added motion blur to the lower layer

Here's a quickie with new sky. See my reply to Donna in thread
"Replacing Sky - at my wits end" for quick method. It pays to have
a folder of a number of different skies. Cheers

didnt want to hijack the post lol .( Geez i am funny tonight.think the broncos win sent me mad.) like your new sky but do you think it should have some motion blur too.

Thanks feivel.

I think that helped. Just replacing the sky wasn't easy...for me anyway...because of making a selection with the already blurred tree line. I didn't think about adding additional blur after the fact.

Thanks everyone. I'll have to get out there and take some pictures on moody, nice, cloudy, stormy, etc...days to have a variety.
