Hello all,

I bought a 602Zoom in Feb. 2003. It's been used quite a bit on trips and vacations, but nothing I would consider 'unusual use'.

Last week, I noticed the zoom in button wasn't working at all. I couldn't zoom in on saved pictures either, which tells me the problem is probably with the button, and not the lense.

After I played with it for awhile, pressing and releasing the button, it started to work. But when you hold it in, it would pause, or stop working again. So off to the local 'Authorized Fuji repair center' it went for warranty repair. There happens to be one 10 minutes away. I dropped it off Friday.

I am wondering if anyone else has had problem like this with their s602Z's, and what kind of service I should expect with service. Any opinions or experiences are appreciated.

No problems with mine Tom. Got it about the same time as yours. How did you locate an authorized Fuji repairer center? Thanks.

There have been numerous posts of faulty switches and / or loose ribbon connections similar to yours, but considering the million or so cameras sold, it's very small. Also, MOST people have very good dealings with Fuji and on the whole "fair" dealings with their dealers. There are one or two idiot ones out there though, so keep your fingers crossed :-) If you want to see your cameras intestines, check out http://www.digsys.com.au/s602z/s602z.html

I found it on their website http://www.fujifilm.com . I also called their 1-800 support number to confirm I didn't have to send the camera to Fuji directly, although I could if I so chose. I then called the local shop and confirmed they can do warranty work on this particular camera. I took 2 copies of my reciept, my camera, and explained what the problem is. Turns out I know some people who have had their cameras repaired there, and they claim it is a good place. It is a little mom and pop joint that has been there for a long time.

Time will tell of course. I intend to post a follow up when it's diagnosed and fixed. I wanted to open it up and see for myself, but I feared I would void the factory warranty. I speculate something rattled loose, as the camera spends a lot of time in my Harley's sattlebag. And as you may or may not know, they shake a lot ;-)

Cool website. I saved it in a PDF file for future use (when the camera is out of warranty). Hopyfully I don't need to get in there though.

I had a similar problem after going to the beach. I may have bumped the toggle and the wide button stopped working. After a while it would work intermittently, sometimes causing the camera to zoom in instead. Now it works fine, but I still have no clue as to why it stopped working in the first place. Anyway, good luck with the repairs!

Well, I came home tonight to a message on my recorder saying my camera is ready for pickup. Must have been something simple or stupid. I'll post a follow up as soon as I know what the deal was.

Thanks for all the replies

As I've found many times before, often it's just a loose ribbon connector. Good to hear of the happy outcome.

I picked it up today, and it seems to work as normally now. The tech wasn't in when I picked it up, so I couldn't get details as to what was wrong. All I have is the notes he put in my work order:
"Repair switch, checked basic operation, cleaning, major dissassembly."

And the best part of all - Labor is paid for compliments of Fuji. I'm sure it was a costly fix, since he had to perform "Major dissassembly."

ROFL, PFFFTTT

I can take the back off and all switch assemblies, blindfolded and drunk, in 5 minutes. They tell fibs :-) ""IF"" that is what they told Fuji HQ, then it's most likely a common "scam" (I've talked about before), given the supplied info.
Anyway, all is well. Good news.

I lost all my sympathy for you when I read this! Lucky bum. :)

I'll never be able to stop buying camera gear, will I?

Now THAT explains why all your cameras end up the way they do.

Note to self: Limit JKIRK to either a blindfold OR a whiskey but not both at the same time! ;-)

Hi Tom,

I had a similar problem with my s602. Right at the end of a trip it started acting up. It would zoom in but not out. I had to turn it on and off again to reset it.

I sent it in to get repaired and have only used it a little bit since it's been fixed. I thought I noticed it happening again but I may be mistaken. I'll have to get some more action out of it to be sure.

Anyways, I bought an extended warranty on it so I should be safe for a couple years. I only wish the repair centre was 10 minutes away. I have to send mine in to New Jersey from Ontario, Canada (can you say PITA!). I guess it's worth it for now given the money I saved buying it online.

Good luck with the camera!
