Hi all!

New here. Great camera the Optio 550. I sincerely hope that someone can solve my problem.

I've installed and re-installed the software to download the images many times, but I just can't get it to work. It's works fine on 2 other (newer) computers that I have access to, but not the one that I have at home with Windows 98.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Thanks,
Poe

windows 98 doesn't recognize the camera. I went to the Oly web site and downloaded different drivers....still didn't work. I would suggest that you try Pentax web site for different drivers, you might get lucky.

Thanks George.

I've spent hours on this. It's driving me crazy (aren't computers fun?). I've tried some of the other drivers. No success yet.

Hi Poe,

I'm far to lazy to f... with Windows 98, even Microsoft stoped to support it, so I bought a USB cardreader which works like a charm :-). And even better, the cardreader works with my linux desktop, too!

Have fun

Thanks Volker,

I appreciate that. I may have to go down that road.

If your computer was upgraded to 98 from Windows 95 then the computer likely won't support USB. If the computer came pre-installed with Windows 98 it might. In any case you should consider a new computer. The large digital files will take up space and require memory to priint or edit. You will go crazy trying to get the old computer working with your new camera.

I wouldn't go that far, I've edited images from a Powershot G3 on an old HP Omnibook 900 with a PII 366MHz and 160MB RAM running Win2K and ACDSee 5. Most Desktops with later PII and PIII Processors are capable of more than 512MB RAM, and Win98 is well suited to use this amount of RAM. My home PC has an old Gigabyte Slot1 Mainboard with Intel BX chipset hosting a Celeron 1.4 GHz on a Slot1 adapter card. I recently added an USB2/Firewire combo and a S-ATA Raid controller card. This mashine is capable of rendering my DV movies to DVDs!

Have you downloaded all the relevant patches/updates for 98 from MS? I'm using 98 with the updates, and its ok for an optio s. Hardware is only a year old though.
