Firmware Upgrade, If it ain't broke....

Oh please!!!!You don't install EVERY software driver/patch as soon as it comes out??? Why??? Don't you want to be the one sticking it to Microsoft, saying "That patch destroyed all my personal files"? Whatcha gonna do about that"? :)

That said, I am a hopeless (albeit careful) patcher... It's a dissease.

Canon USA is selling new 10D's with the new firmware. I guess they aren't too worried about it. ;)
Don't try to fix it. As an ex computer tech I can't tell you how
many supposed fixes would render a PC inoperable. Just my two
cents.

Yes, this is ON-TOPIC!

Actually I reached a point where I got tired of dealing with idiots.
I hear you!!!

I've felt like that so many times... But it's best to smile and get on with our lives, isn't it?

:)

I am not trying to sound condescending here, I do totally hear you. As a TA for a physics course, I had this girl tell me "This software doesn't work..." (and this was one of the physics majors at the University of Chicago). She was not working very hard, needless to say... She was driving me insane, I was doing the whole lab for her. I asked "Did you follow the instructions?". She said "Yes, of course." I said "If I make the software work, you'll get on your knees and say 'I'm sorry', OK?" She agreed. And she did.

install instructions and understand them. Camera firmware updates are straight forward and its pretty hard to make a mistake but if you do its most likely to the Service center for you.

Having said that I wouldn't hesitate installing this firmware. Just follow the directions.

Now computer BIOS patches are another thing altogether. As a word of warning if your computer is fine and your manufacturer releases a BIOS upgrade on their website do not install it unless you are extremely confident you can recover back to an earlier BIOS version if something goes wrong. In many cases the BIOS once installed cannot be reversed without resetting jumper switches, booting with start up disk etc etc.. It's not pleasant. BIOS upgrades are rarely worth the risk to upgrade unless your PC is acting up and your manufacture suggests doing it.
Probably about as tired as I get working with "help line" morons
who know less than I do. LOL.

I guess I'm in the same boat...if it's on current cameras, then it can't bad. Yes, I upgraded my firmware and FWIW it didn't hurt...My camera still works - just like it did before the "upgrade". Besides, what if it actually DOES fix something besides what they said...
