what other NTF members look like, do or did......besides post on the forum and take photos?

I being the "people person" that I am, wonder all the time. The profiles tell you some and pbase site tells you some.....but not all.

I have noticed one thing about photographers pro or not...they are mostly camera shy. I for one have been since a child. There would be no photos of me without my husband.

So, anyone brave and open to posting a portrait with a little bio past and present, let's hear it.

having my pic taken and avoid it at all costs. My mom is always complaining because I'll send her pics that I took of my DH. She says "I appreciate the pics, but where are the ones of YOU?"

Go on then, I'll play :-)

This is me earlier this year on Crinkle Crags in the ELD. That's Bowfell in the background, our next stop - the landscape is far more interesting than me and my legs!

I'm 49, a retired Policeman from the northwest of England. Currently enjoying some down time before I go look for some gainful employment and doing plenty of walking with Megan, my Border Collie.

Because I already know what a great person you are :)

Here's me, to all who haven't visited my site yet L

I took that shot myself, once again no tripod or flashes just lamps and wooden boxes L I think that was like one of 5 decent ones (focused L ) out of like 90. Here's my favourite mistake...

Well, I guess everyone should know my story by now. I was born in Brasil, moved to Australia when I was 9, lived there till I was 18 and moved to Sacramento California (in the US of A) when I got married that year. I'm 20 now and still waiting on a Visa, this process is taking forever, so I can't work, drive or study. Sigh So I got into this photography gig cause I've loved it since I was like 5! :) And I don't need no stinking permission of the INS to do it LOL

I guess it would be nice to know also that I grew up with computers and have been interested in web design, networking and programming for ages now. I do a little Flash (and I mean a little, I've just started to look at it) and I've been playing with many different photo editing softwares for years now (never actually being able to buy one, just using the ones I got with computers, or my dad got from buying stuff or just trials). But from that I was able to look at the Photoshop trial and not be too intimidated by it. Can't afford it L But trying it out made me see why so many people have it and make me wish I did :(

Anyways, I hope to work with computers one day (when I can) and be a good wife to my husband, and mother to my (planned) children :)

I guess that's enough, or you all will think I just love talking about myself, when in fact I love hearing about others :)

Now lets hear a bit about you then ;)

Have a nice day y'all!

Dayane,

My husband would say, "You know how to spell Brasil!" He was born in Curitiba, and lived there until college. His parents were missionaries, so he furloughed in California occasionally as a child. Then he ended up in Texas where he met me, and became a cowboy type. Actually he's an engineer, but we do have and ride horses for fun and show. We just came back Monday from CA where we took our "baby" to attend college. The wounds are very fresh for empty nest syndrome. Took lots of photos there as we spent 10 days in San Leandro. Saw all the sights and got some neat shots of the bridges at night. Learned about my 5700 and what it can do.
So glad I bought this camera.

Well I guess I am like most that very seldom get in front of the camera. But I am a potter and do have some shots of me at home in the studio working on the wheel. I will try to dig them up tonight and then give a rundown of myself.

Wow, I will have to tell him about you being from Curitiba. His parents were directors of an orphanage there. Yes, he still speaks fluent Portuguese (our kids called it "pork and cheese"). We live in a small town now, but would you believe there are 3 others here that went to his same high school in Brasil? It was a very small school in Sao Paulo, one guy was even in the same class. They accidentally ran into each other at the book store, and so he gets to use his Portuguese again.

His parents still own a house in Curitiba, but rent it to a friend who is like a daughter, they have retired to the Fresno area.

There is a large group of Brasilians in the Fresno area, in fact they had a get together at his brother's, just before we went out there.

That's amazing! Wish I had that happen. My husband (an American) is learning Portuguese (at a very fast rate I must say) so that we can practice and not lose it. He wants us to teach it to our kids. Also so he can speak to my family in Brasil, who only speak portuguese :) Do you know any? Your kids?

Fresno area eh? Any Brasilian restaurants there? My husband and I make our way to San Francisco to go to the Brasilian restaurants there and the Brasilian mini market they have there. It's great to get all that stuff we miss... Guarana, Coxinha de galinha, bom-boms de sonho de valsa e garoto, farinha de mandioca, Pao de queijo, all sorts of Brasilian stuff :) Does your husband remember any of them? Miss any? I do! LOL They have places online you can order and have that stuff delivered to you. :)
http://sendexnet.com/2003/ Here's one we've ordered from.

This is so cool. Haven't met anyone from Curitiba outside of Brasil. Lots from Sao Paulo or Rio though L

My portuguese is limited to a few phrases, which I would be embarrassed to try to spell. Our two girls never learned anything since I was the one home with them all the time. So do teach your kids, they will be so glad. Tell your husband I admire that he is learning so fast. Actually, I can understand enough to sort of follow the conversation. When I do try to say something it must really sound funny to my husband since I have a heavy Texas accent.

I think Bob's parents have the same sort of thing with this friend. They tried for a long time to sell the house, but the economy was so bad it didn't sell. At least this lady loves them and takes care of it well. She was one of the orphan children they raised and now teaches English there.

Her name is Lili Cabral. Do your parents still live in Curitiba? I will have to ask Bob where the house is in Curitiba as I wouldn't remember.

I wish we had known about the places in SF since we just came from there. We should have realized they'd have something. My sister lives in Houston and they have some Brazilian places there. Yes, Bob (Roberto) knows and misses all these things too. I even know what most of the stuff you mentioned is. His buddies here have been on trips there recently and they bring things to each other. I will pass on the website to him and thankyou.

He took me to Curitiba after we married, but it's been a long time ago. I remember being surprised as to the size of this city I had never heard of before meeting him. The people were fabulous, so warm and friendly, and when they heard I was from Texas they all wanted to know if I owned an oil well or knew John Wayne. The show Dallas was popular there at the time so everyone assumed that was what Texas was like. It's so funny how we get these impressions from TV. I remember we took a train and went east up in the mountains to Paranagua' to litorina and Vila Velha where all these orchids were growing wild everywhere. It was so beautiful and I wish I had my 5700 then. Maybe this is what gave me the desire to shoot pictures? We then went down and stayed on the beach where you'd see men and boys with nets in the surf pulling fish in just like Biblical times.

Maybe someday we can return with good photo equipment.

God bless.

Jeff, my husband, does have a bit of that Californian accent when he speaks portuguese, but he's learning how to get around it. He and I can have a conversation no problems now. It's funny because people look at us like we're speaking Martian L

Lili teaches english? That's great! I have an aunt and an Uncle who want to learn. They've been taking some lessons, but it's getting a little too expencive (as with everything there). I actually don't even remember where my house is, I'll have to ask my mother L My parents live in Australia. One of my aunts (with my uncle and cousins) have recently moved there. But everyone else is in Brasil :)

Yeah, people get funny impressions from TV and movies. A funny story that happened with my mother... SHe was on the phone to one of my little cousins in Brasil and he asked her if we all have Kangaroos in our yards and stuff. She of course said "No, of course not, that's just TV..." Just then a Kangaroo hopped past our yard behind the house (It's an empty lot) and she said, "Um... okay, I take that back."

But seriously he thought that we lived in a land that looks like a Road Runner cartoon set and had Kangaroos everywhere L But then Aussies think that Brasilians are all black, play soccer and are very poor living in garbage bag 'favelas'. Of course those people exist, but it's not the main population :)

I hope to go visit again some day. I went like 5 years ago now, and stayed there for 4 months. Had the time of my life, but also saw why my family moved. Send greetings to your husband for me, and best of luck for you both to go visit :)

Best wishes,
