YES: Ixus as a WEBCAM here

Babel Fish literal translation:

"In different newsgroup and forums repeatedly the question emerges whether one can use a digital camera as Webcam. An explanation is located in the following article.

With a digital camera, e.g. the IXUS V, one has to already install the technical Vorraussetzung up to a little thing around a Webcam. Since there is unfortunately no software, with which the pictures of the ix-US camera can be picked out over the USB port, in order it afterwards to the InterNet to place, must the used PC a video entrance possess. With the help of this video entrance each commercial Webcam software over the existing Capture -- driver can access the pictures of the camera.

One receives the necessary video entrance by a VideoCapture card (it should give for few euro in the trade), a TV card or over a diagram card, which supports a capturing of videos. For this Workshop is assumed the PC possesses a TV card. If the video entrance is differently realized, there can be small deviations.

As for software the Webcam Tool vision gs v1.21f free for private users ( http://www.visiongs.de/ )is used. The software is structured very well and offers all necessary functions for the realization of its own Webcam.

After the installation of the software connect the digital camera with the provided video cable by the video-in socket of the TV card with the PC with the start of the program recognize the software automatically the installed video drivers. If they do not possess further video devices except the TV card, the program selects automatically the only available driver independently."

There - that should be clear now ;)

My advice: spend 50 bucks on a Logitech Webcam.

Recently there has been some discussion about the possibility of
using the Ixus as a webcam. Apparently the Ixus cameras can be used
as a webcam, instructions here:

Basically, they're saying you need to have video input in your computer, and use the video output feature on the IXUS with that. So you get NTSC low resolution and screwed up colors.

If you have a video capture card, or a video card with video in (like a higher end ATI or nVidia card) you can already do this, the card comes with "Video for Windows" drivers.

It's what I mentioned earlier, software to use the USB "preview" capability of the IXUS as a webcam doesn't exist yet.
