If you look in the center of the bottom left quarter of this image, there's a dark smudge. I only just noticed it, and found that it's on all similar images.

99 percent of the time it's hidden by generally darker parts of images. The lens is clean, like new.

Would you consider this an acceptable glitch, or do you think I should go ahead and have the camera repaired? Otherwise it's perfect.

BTW, this sample is of a seed floating in murky water... :)

Thanks,
Andrew

Did you take this pic through glass? Using a waterproof case? Did you check these for smudges? Do you only see the problem with underwater pics? What if you take a pic of a clear blue sky? Or a sheet of white paper? Still see the spot?

A naked camera looking down at water. Other shots with clear sky in that position show the smudge as well.

OK. So, if the lens is clean, it must be inside the camera. Possibly some dust/smudge on the CCD itself. I would take it back to the camera shop. If they can't help you, it will have to be send back to Canon.

I would certainly not accept this on my camera.... Take a few sample pics with you to the store. See if they have internet access so they can look at the pic you attached to this thread. Upload the image on your camera, so they can look at it on the LCD. Print a few copies, so they can send them to Canon with the camera, if necessary.

Thanks. I'm taking it back. Looking back through my pics I'm seeing that darned smudge everywhere!
